sometimes when i split a clip i can't move one without the other. it's like they're still joined?

i find it difficult to use too. when you split, both clips are selected. you have to deselect it before they move independent. the problem is you cannot click in an empty space to deselect everything. so i just click on another track header or another clip on the project.

You don't have to deselect everything first. After splitting, just click once on the header of the clip you want to move and it will solely selected.

I think it's done like this because there's no real way of knowing if you're splitting forwards in time or backwards.
What I think I might add is if you don't have anything selected it will split the clip under the mouse and not select it. This would enable you to then simply drag the clip you need to.
