wagtunes wrote: Mon Feb 11, 2019 12:47 pm After hearing about all the bugs in 1.2, I'm not even sure I want to upgrade. My Thorn 1.1 works fine and I'd like to keep it that way.
What new bugs were introduced in version 1.2 ?

If I can reproduce them here then I'll be glad to report them. Much more productive than simply complaining about them here which accomplishes nothing.

1.2 is working fine here so far. But if you want to be forever stuck on 1.1 then that's your prerogative.

Bottom line is now Dmitry will have more time to work on any bugs now that PA is taking over administrative duties.

That not only includes Thorn but the other great plugins that contain his code which he doesn't get credit for programming. Some of them could use some bug love too. It's my impression that he has simply been spread too thin to keep up with all the projects and run a website, track sales etc.

It may be hard for people to focus on the long run but to me this deal simply allows one of the most talented developers to focus on doing what he does best and that's write code and do sound design.

In the long run we'll all benefit........
I have no doubt that in the long run it will be best for everybody but I'm only concerned with the right now. If I download and install 1.2, will I end up with a synth that has more problems that it has now (which I haven't found any by the way)? If so, how do I then go back to 1.1?

For me, it's just not worth the risk until we know that 1.2 is stable.

If it's not broke, I don't fix it. Which is why I haven't upgraded most of my plugins.

I agree with you Wags. I didn't down load and install Thorn but I did take a chance to get the upgrade for $19. No one knows if that price will remain forever or if they might increase the upgrade price going forward. Right now the v1.2 license is just sitting in my PA account and in the mean time I just keep using 1.1 :)

you're not going to delete your v1.1 installer are you? because surely that'd be the only thing preventing you from doing that.
v1.2 probably relies on the PA plugin manager, so no overlap with the original DS installers.

I never jump on upgrades either and it has served me well. I'll see what the future brings and if there is a good upgrade path I 'll see whether the promise of Dmitry to honour coupons beyond 30 days still stands.

In the meantime is 1.1 a fine piece of software.

What makes you think 1.2 is not stable ? It is here. I used in it in a project yesterday and it loads all my old patches just fine (which is why I always use the built in patch system).

Again what new bugs were introduced into 1.2 ? What changes were made to the code that would introduce new bugs ? I don't know I'm asking.

Anyway update for $19 now or wait and pay more in the future. You could update now and wait to install it until you're satisfied that 1.2 or beyond meets your requirements.

For the record I just tried on this system and Thorn and DS Thorn will run side by side. Whether they share some registry entries I don't know but they do both load. The File system is different but that's not a big deal. One is "Documents/Dmitry Sches" and the other is "Documents/DS Thorn". Not a problem to copy presets from old to new.......

EDIT: Also for the record I did not install the PA Plugin Manager and everything is working fine.

I used my PA voucher to pay for the upgrade.

Nothing against DS of course but I'm not giving PA cash for a synth I own with a very minor upgrade. Plus, hadn't planned on using the voucher anyway this month.

I understand why Dmitry joined Plugin Alliance.
And in the long run, it is good for him and his customers.
As some other people, I used the voucher to do the upgrade for free.

How about: 'Presets for the Poor - The Socialists Edition'

the main problem is that hey force us to update THIS MONTH, or the price for $19 will never be possible again

Read a few pages back for a statement from Dmitry about that.
