a moral dilemma...

Hi people,
this is my first post here... and I'd like to share with you my dilemma...

the fact: it's pretty easy to get the "computer music" magazine here in italy too... and for me, as a "total-midi-guy", it's pretty easy also to fall in love with computer muzys...

the problem: i just discovered i can't buy muzys...arrived pretty late hu? and from your last posts i guess that the shop will never open again...

i'm strongly against cracked software...for two simple reasons:
1) it's robbery
2) it damages deeply small developers...buying software like energyXT, Dashsignature EVE (all stuff i own and love) and stuff like that is also a way of rewarding intelligent and innovative devlopers which sell their products at a fair price...

legally speaking muzys is still jo's property so using a cracked version it's robbery... but hasn't he already damaged himself preventing me from beying able to buy it? and i would have eagerly paied it even more than its selling price...

and i ask to myself: what's the damage if i use the cracked version and buy the legal one (if and when it would ever come out again)? no damage i say to myself... but still i'm rejecting this solution and i'm using computer muzys with its limitations...

just wanted to share my thoughts... :?

moral is a very personal thing - but I know that I would use the crack if I was sure that I bought the full version from Jo as soon as I get the chance to do so. Personally I don't think this would be morally wrong although it is illegal. :?

I agree: morality is something very personal...
I'm lucky enough the have used 4-tracks and 8-tracks tape recorders, so bouncing is a "normal" approach to me and cmuzys is not so restricting this way...

I used Tracktion, Fruity Loops...I demoed Sonar 3 and Cubase SX...often I use energyXT...but nothing gives me easy midi editing and composition layering all in just one window as muzys does...

it's also very sad that such a nice piece of software is forced to an eternal non-development stage...

btw, great mp3s jens! :)

dispersivo: my advice is not to wait for the Muzys shop to open again to buy the full version, as that may never happen. Don't waste time waiting for it to happen, when it might not, and use this time to move on to another host.

I agree the Muzys midi editing side is the best I've used, but the current Muzys full version (last update July 2003) doesn't have any kind of Freeze function, only has 16 mixer channels, doesn't stream WAVs from hard disk... so I've moved onto other hosts (eXT and Tracktion) and while I'd say the midi editing of eXT isn't quite as brilliant as Muzys, it's still good :) take the time to learn eXT and forget idea of using a cracked version of Muzys while waiting for the shop to re-open

Just my opinion as a former Muzys user

thanks for your advice scam_artist

we all have the same needings: record our ideas, edit them and get a portrait of our feelings

every sequencer can do this, with its own pros and cons and they depend on our workflow and mental approach

it just happens that muzys layout reflects my mental approach (ouch...should i be worried? :) ), so when using other sequencers i have to adapt myself to them, and not viceversa

i own energyxt and i like it so much as a vst, but still when using it as a standalone host there are to many steps from the idea to the recorded track for me

it may sounds stupid but cmuzys limitations (8 channel mixer and just 5 vsti slots) are much more easier to get around for me than having to work with multiple windows and stuff like that

i've started learning xt as a standalone, hoping for a bit more developed midi editing function

but i'll keep cmuzys anyway for laying out ideas... i like it too much :?
