when 'freezing' a track , that track parameters become inacessible, as opposed to the live/unfrozen version of that track there is a drop in soundlevel
(when frozen)
(original track has compressor/limiters on it)
is there any way to compensate that frozen track's
level, and can you set the bit depth/samplerate of a frozen track before or while its frozen.

thanx

The best way is to use the "Render and add" or "Render and replace" 8). It gives you all the options you want. All you have to do is mute the real midi track. Not ideal but it works.

Thats just the way Tracktion works (all files are frozen together) Try using the Render option instead.

Something wrong there then: there should be no audible difference when frozen. Perhaps one of the plugs you are using doesn't render offline properly?

Not at the moment. Once again I suggest you try rendering instaed of freezing. Rendering happens at whetver bit-depth your card is set to.. unless you are using a mac?

thanx for shareing thoughts ad and platinumears

No Mac used here
A P4 with terratec phase 28 card running
A ppg wave 2.3+waveterm b and Prkfd, a SCI prophet 5, a SCi prophet 600, d50, juno60, ASR10,waldorf micro q, NOV basstation and 2vsti's (d'cota and intakt plugs)+reason.

I come from an atari background since mid 80's (creator sl and dr t's kcs) , i ditched cubase sx in favour of uncluttered tracktion and didn't regret purchasing it.

File handling is great in tracktion
As opposed to what is said about differences in
soundquality between a live and a frozen version (or rendered) there is a lot of difference, frozen never sounds as good as the live running , if you freeze the fx with it, i always put live fx at the end of a rendered track to compensate, but that's a discussion i had many times, in THEORY it should sound exactly the same , but it doesnt.
All sequencers suffer from this loss in qual.
as far as exported audio goes. i allways run the live mix direct to dat.

That's interesting. Would it in any way be possible to record the realtime output to a new track during playback to check if this also changes quality compared to a DAT mixdown?

Are you going straight digital to the DAT or through DA/AD converters (analog out of soundcard)?

It is a pity that so many recommend render in stead of freeze as I find freeze so easy to use and one of T's strong points. Would'n want it to degrade sound though... :(

Some small wishes:
1. When doing an export/render/freeze it would be nice if it displayed something like 'Freezing to 24 bit...' while in progress, just to be sure of the actual bitdepht.
2. When rendering, please let the track and clip names be the same as my choosen file name.

---There is a utility (vstfx) called Tapeit that can do that, and export options are native in that.

--- that depends as going straight to digital can
in some cases make parityfaults, analog never.
i record the output always digital (from terratec 28 to a delta 1010)
if i still want to edit on a second pc.

---there is theoretically no difference between freezing and rendering , so the degradation of soundquality also affects rendering, always put some
live fx after a rendered track or the sound will become stale in the end. i Never render a finished
song to burn to disc, always a live bounce to dat or second pc.
