Help with the midi drag and drop behavior

I am on Waveform 10 put have had previous versions as well and have experienced difficulties dragging midi files from outside of Waveform and from VSTs. For example, if I attempt to drag a beat from Addictive drums and EZ drummer onto the instrument track it ends up either creating another track of putting it on a track below. Also, it does not seem to place the clip at the current play position, it appears to drop it randomly on the timeline. I am assuming there is something I am doing wrong as it is really to finicky to be the normal behavior. Any help would be appreciated.

I get the same thing happening when I drag Groove (MIDI) files from NI Studio Drummer. I'll check later if the NI Abbey Road series do it too.
