Ambisonics are a bit more complicated than normal multi-channel surround. A first order B-format Ambisonic stream is a bit like Mid-Side, but with 3 axes. You have Omni + X phase difference + Y phase difference + Z phase difference. Therefore you can't operate on the channels in quite the same way as you do with basic multichannel. If you increase the amplitude of the XYZ channels, you make the signal wider, the same way when you increase the amplitude of a Side channel, and this can change the scale of the spatiality in undesired ways. To retain the spatiality the processing needs to keep this in mind.
But if Ambisonic support were added to the MeldaProduction audio kernel, it would give us access to a vast, powerful set of plugins for all kinds of cool processing of audio for VR videos.
