...well, not exactly, a purchase of something else has to go along with it...and the rest of the "plugin budget" for this year has been allocated to Melda, soooooo...I can't be the only one around here who's thought about this sort of "EQ" and I thought I would ask. Otherwise it's off to Mxxx...(again)...(there's always Mxxx).../s~

Shoot, if you want it, pick any $5-15 plug-in; the AIR synths are great.

I have half a dozen $3 soundbanks for Hybrid 3 on my Pluginboutique wish list that if I buy one, will get me proximity:EQ+.

Thanks for the heads up, didn't notice that part of the offer, so maybe...OTOH, I'd rather have that functionality in something like MADeq, and to be honest, I haven't been off the "Melda ranch" in so long I'm not sure it's even worth it to me even at that price. I've got the trial for the next few days, so we'll see I guess...and thanx.../s~

I've had/used Proximity for quite sometime, but "moved on" using something cooked up in Melda based on a preset that Chandler created. Both were/are more single channel specific than what I'm thinking at the moment. A current project is a batch of band tapes recorded in a very reverberant hall that I need to "de-verb" before going much further. So far, "Proximity EQ" seems to be working more effectively than other solutions I've been trying.../s~

Oh yeah? Now that you've said that I remember a vid where he was moving the sound around and have just been off looking for it. Is the preset in the Online Exchange or buried in the forum here somewhere? I'd love to check it out.

I used to use Proximity with 4 different presets, each a different distance from the listener but have kind of moved away from it because I wasn't convinced it made my mixes "better". In the most basic sense, you're just rolling off the highs the farther away from the listener, right?

I think the processing was far more detailed/complex than just high-end rolloff, in that time delays/etc were involved as well. Yet over time I ended up with the same conclusion you had come to, meh. But it was quite "revolutionary" in its day. I think I killed it from over use, just like my first wah pedal. To confirm the value of the initial incite, Apple went to the trouble to roll their own native version right into the channel strip. It's a cpu hog, but works quite nicely...and I can't for the life of me find that original Chandler preset...(sigh).../s~

The sonible plugin DOES look pretty nice and intuitive.

Just back from a quick demo. Super easy to use and intuitive. I could totally see putting that on your instruments/buses for any final EQ tweaks and and then placing them on the virtual stage and automating a solo intrument to bring it forward... Pretty nice!

The demo video at Plugin Boutique didn't exactly blow me away. The plug could be handy for some, in certain situations, I guess.

I did wonder if the "de-verberate" function is actually a multiband gate effect. So I tried to make my own version in MXXX, and got some decent results. I opened up 6 bands in MXXX, put a Dynamics module on each one, and turned on the gate. I solo-ed each one, and played with the gate threshold, to just cut off the softer parts of the sustain (on a rhythm guitar track, with reverb recorded right in the part originally). I used a long-ish attack and fast release. I got it to sound pretty close to a clean recording with no reverb...with a bit of a delay effect on it. Played against the rest of the tracks in the song, it sounded perfectly natural. And using the overall dry/wet control was useful, too.
* And this was just me scratching the very surface of MXXX, with little experience with it.
Having said all that, if there's a plugin that you were thinking of getting at Plugin Boutique anyways, and you get the Sonible plug for free, then hey, why not grab it? But I wouldn't spend money that I otherwise wouldn't have spent, just to get it.

anyone else experiencing major latency issues with this plugin?

in Cubase - the latency is not being compensated for, i've never seen this problem before. around 100ms of latency not accounted for. Even in Ableton Live there is some major looping issues going on if Proximity EQ is in the project anywhere, even if it's inactive.
