Video Request, possibly in several installments:

Making pads and atmospheres using MSF.

Cheers.

I think I can do that this week. Is there any particular sound you’re interested in? I can try to do something similar, but no promises. I have some pad ideas already.

In the meantime, these are quite useful:

Nothing specific really, but questions like: what can MSF bring to pads, textures and atmospheres regarding the richness of modulations available ? Same with the choice of generators. For long textured atmospheres and soundscapes, the use of slow modulations to slowly bring in additions to a basic texture. What would be the role of per-voice FX for those types of sounds, or perhaps should it be avoided in such cases ? In which way, and which of the FX can be used to benefit the creation of those sounds ?

General starting and exploration points for pads, soundscapes and atmospheres.

Cheers.

So far I stayed away from MPS because the sounds it produced as part of the presets didn't stick. It's an organic process, not a technical one. A synth either "has it" or it doesn't. I found MPS way too cold, too thin, to attract the same attention as some other synths which I will not name here (because comparing would be useless IMHO).
Modulation (at least the little I tried and what was incorparated in factory patches) tended to underline the coldness of the sounds.

I did watch the video about grains some time ago and found it very interesting but did not apply any of it yet, other things taking priority.

Now with MSF there's a really interesting wide array of sounds possible. Modulation, from the little I can see, can be applied to enhance the richness of a sound as the basic generated sounds can allow for such a leeway, for such expansion, I find. Even with the weird sounds I have created from scratch there's a feeling of depth. So I'm looking forward to apply this, or modify existing patches and upcoming MSF-specific patches.

Cheers.

Inspired by the video below, I'd love to hear about ways to use the various MBand options in MSF to do similar things to wide-spectrum pad and atmospheric sounds. Especially since the MB version of MRhythmizer isn't included in MSF.

Maybe it's too much to add to a pads topic, but what I'm really after is a comparison/discussion about various ways and reasons to split incoming sounds with the multiple options for that available in MSF, such as these (guessing that's part of what the Channel Matrix is about…?), and any others I may be overlooking (I REALLY hope somebody's working on a rundown of ALL the available modules, explaining what they do and can be used for!):

David - Thanks for posting the videos. I did a few videos in the past talking about the various multiband crossovers and I’ll try to link them here later. In the future I’ll try to do something interesting with them again.

melva - I’ll try to show how you can ise various modules to make interesting pad sound and use the per-voice functions to add movement.
