Drum Loops: Acoustic Rock, who has best loops for $

I'm about to spend $50 on some loops - Drum n Bass, funky loops need not apply.

It seems like Drums on Demand and Beta Monkey offer some of the more useful loops for my style - rather than define it, I'll say what kind of music I like:

Coldplay, U2, Switchfoot, Emmylou Harris, Guster, Allison Krauss w/Union Station, etc.

I like the samples from both of these companies, but it seems like Drums on Demand has seen more favorable reviews on this forum. I do like how they are organized on the disc.

I'm looking for opinions from someone who has loops from both. Beta Monkey looks like their stuff is about 1/3 cheaper than DoD.

I know I've replied to you already, Scott, but for the sake of the forum ("won't someone please think of the forum!!??"), I have to put my vote in for Beta Monkey. Especially their Modern & Alt. series. I like what I've heard from DoD, but their stuff sounds a bit too processed for my taste. Not processed in a bad way, but I'd rather add my own ambience (or not).

If I could mildly hi-jack this (apologies) ....

and same question for Swing & Bop Jazz Drum loops ?

This not better asked in the "Samples, Sampling and Sample Libraries" forum?

I agree - I own 5 Beta Monkey Music drum CDs and I couldn't be happier! I can't drum worth a damn and I seem to be genetically incapable of programming a drum machine of any kind (lol) so their loops save my musical bacon. I'll probably end up owning all their stuff.. the variety is excellent, the playing is good, kits are consistent.. and I've never had an issue with asking questions, always an email back within a couple of days. Works a treat in Tracktion, all the tunes I've done in the past 4 months have Beta Monkey loops on 'em.

I've tried some Acid Loop drum CDs but I find the loops are inconsistent in most, almost as if they'd been played on different kits (makes for one weird sounding song, I might add).

And yeah, this should probably be in the Sampling forum, but what the heck, he wants to use 'em in Tracktion. :D

ps. no I don't work for the company, I'm just happy that I don't have to beat my head against a drum machine any more!

I don't own any loop libraries, but of all the loops I've collected from various sites, and particularly from CM/FM cover discs, the Beta Monkey ones were the only ones that really did it for me in terms of an acoustic rock construction kit.

So, it's not an educated vote by any stretch, but I'd have to say that they seem to do a great job of what you're asking for.

DoD, on the other hand, will be a bit more custom-tailored to your song, from what I understand-- more like having a session drummer sit in with you, no?

Hmm, I hadn't heard of betamonkey, thanks for the tip!

I just checked out the Drum Werks vol 1 previews, and there is for sure a Led Zep vibe going there... Might have to pick that one up, or possibly a bundle even.

Thanks for all the replies.

Beta Monkey it is.

I just pulled the trigger and got the funky monkey 3 pack.

Hopefully I'll be able to use these direct in T and post some tunes soon.

I like and would recommend betamonkey's single hits and construction kits too. I've worked them into my LinPlug RM IV as well as Tracktion's sampler.
