Hi,

does anybody know, if it is possible to get a hysteresis function for treshold in one of the dynamic plugins from Melda? I would like to have a gate with threshold for opening the gate and a different dB-Value for closing the gate. Similar as it is in the Ableton Live Gate. Did I oversee anything or is it really not possible? Which plugin could it do?

Peak hold doesn't do what you're asking, but doesn't it avoid the problem caused by the signal rapidly crossing and recrossing the the threshold point? I'm not saying this is the solution, but I'm curious as to whether it does in fact avoid the hysteresis issue.

Have you tried using the level crossover in a creative manner?
How about the follower mode for a modulator?
I don't remember the names of the tutorials that mention either of them, but they should be fairly easy to find.

It should solve the problem of immediate recrossing, but doesn't allow you to control the attack of beginning transients, which is the bigger benefit of hysteresis IMO.

Not really, it seems not to be intuitive but maybe it's worth a try.

This seems to be the most promising approach ATM. Also envelope mode seems promising, since you can apply a "threshold on" and "threshold off" in the detector there. But nevertheless you have to tweak too much, when controlling threshold value and make it then dynamic, as was my idea. Or would you control any other parameter with it?

Hoped there would be an easier more intuitive way.

I had the same question a few years back. It's certainly possible, but not particularly easy or intuitive to do it. The solution I came up with was to control the utility module's volume knob with an envelope follower.

I modeled this loosely after Ableton Live's gate. The basic idea is to cut the volume by some amount, controlled by the floor setting, when the signal drops below the mod follower's threshold and simultaneously raise the threshold by some amount determined by the hysteresis value. Reverse the process when the signal level climbs above the threshold. It more or less works, but obviously it would be better to have two proper thresholds rather than trying to hack a single threshold. The "Flip" button works like the one in Ableton's gate.

Wow, thank you. Didn't first know, what to do with the character sequence. Nice work. I would also prefer to set to thresholds directly. Maybe I should put a feature request :wink:
