Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to add a Netflix preset to MLoudnessAnalyzer?
The spec is -27 LKFS +/- 2 LU dialog-gated. Peaks must not exceed -2db True Peak. Audio should be measured over full program according to ITU-R BS.1770-1 guidelines.
The difficulty is in the dialog gating which uses Dolby's speech gating technology, however, Dolby has made this free for developer's to integrate:

So I appreciate this isn't as simple as setting a target level in the plug-in.
I'm trialing Nugen's VisLM and iZotope's Insight 2 at the moment, both of which have Netflix compliance but they are, in my opinion, too expensive.
Perhaps Melda could make a 'pro' version of the analyzer that isn't free?

Hi, thanks for the info, but I'm afraid the time is just way too limited these days. But yes, the 2 are superexpensive... Who knows maybe one day. What is missing in MLoudnessAnalyzer? Just the gating?

Yeah, I believe the integration only happens when the dialog track triggers the gate, but I don't know how it knows what is dialog!

Just mix to -25.5dB and you should be straight for now.
This is based on the Pro Tools Expert article wherein he takes four finished projects that were mastered for -23LU R128 then puts it through VisLM2. That plugin, based on this Dolby standard, says two were within tolerance and two weren't.
Of the two that weren't, one was 1.2dB over and one was 2.2dB over -25dB Dialog. The two that were in compliance were 0.9 and 0.7dB over -27dB Dialog. He's even got a little image under the results of a meter saying '-25.4 Integrated (LKFS)' but I don't see where he explains that. This information, coupled with that they want another one dBTP of headroom, makes me feel like reducing your current level by 2.5dB while still using your current tools should be fine for now.
This loudness stuff is crazy. However, if I were doing audio for Netflix or other important paid video, I'd definitely buy the appropriate tool. MLoudnessAnalyzer is great and, besides Sonimus Satson for gain staging, it's all I use to know where my loudness is at for music and YouTube videos. That being said, it's a free general-purpose tool.
If you need to be on the cutting edge and 100% in-compliance for paid work then buy tools that are already tailored to your needs.
On the other hand, if Melda wants to pump up MLA then I'll take it because I love me some loudness measurements.

Thanks Hexspa great info and good advice, I will probably buy the Nugen VisLM, I'll hold out for black Friday and keep my fingers crossed.
I also noticed that Insight and VisLM give slightly different readings on the same material which doesn't help ease my scepticism regarding pricing!

Ya, the whole thing seems silly to me. Dolby makes a standard, what 10 years ago? Netflix, and only Netflix, decides to adopt it. Movies already have dynamic range that's too wide but now it'll be wider. Can -2dBTP really be justified? Only two developers are hip to this change and their plugins are crazy expensive.
