Hi, as some developers publish plugins only in AU and VST3 (on Mac) like f.e. Madrona Labs Aaltoverb I have to bridge them with Metaplugin every time I want to use them.

Would be great to get VST3 support and /or AU Support in MuLab :-)

Cheers

I was just wondering if hosting vst3 plugins is planned soon . I believe Steinberge are killing off vst 2 support (or trying to) via not issuing new licences for vst2. Not a rush, or big issue right now but it it does look like vst3 is going to happen.

Agreed. Now starting to see some new vst3-only synths on PC. Would be a shame to have to use some other daw to host these in future.
Personally I don't see the advantage of the vst3 format, neither in sound, capability or usage. In fact its annoying that you cannot install them where you like, or organise them properly within any DAW host. If you have a lot of vsts like i do its a pain!
imo the only reason for supporting the format is because of Steinberg's policy on this.

Yep, top reason to have the format dropped by devs. That might convince Steinberg to mend their ways.

Why would top devs make a stand against Steinberg ? Just wondering.
I also don't like not being able to select where vst's are installed. I don't yet have any "must have" vst's that are only vst3, but with having extra time on my hands to browse the net, there seems to be talk of, or its implied that, vst3 only updates being planned for "the future". But, how long away that is, is anyone guess?

What we need is an open source music plugin format. Not owned by Steinberg or Apple or ...

Capitalism works like that. If there's no demand, there's no reason for the supplier to supply. So if devs don't support it, why would Steinberg carry on promoting it? If DAW users refuse to buy VST3-only plugins, devs won't see a demand for the format and won't see a reason to waste costly resources supporting it.

I'd vote for that and to have a cross platform "save as " then we could save in one DAW and open the project again in another DAW that may do something better than the first DAW.

MUX presets are already cross-platform, of course.
