I've been looking through multiple forums, reddit and the user guide for a while but I can't find a way to arm tracks individually or to record whatever is routed to them using racks.
I came across this issue again today as I was playing around with a drum vst (Air Strike 2) with multi-channel outputs and routing each to multiple different tracks using racks, but it is also something that has been boggling my mind for a while.
Did not want to do this but, as a comparison and out of many other DAWs that can also do the same, Cakewalk (formerly known as Sonar) allows the user to arm/record whatever is routed from a source track into other tracks, on demand (be it midi to audio, or audio+fx to an audio track). I understand that the purpose behind the way tracks behave in Waveform is to be some sort of flexible universal I/O (and that this idea comes with its own share of issues) but, why the inability to arm individual tracks? Allowing racks to arm tracks might alleviate this issue a bit though.
Here's an example of what I wanted to accomplish (but failed to do) in Waveform, but could easily in Cakewalk. In other words, "splitting" a source track containing a midi clip onto multiple receiving stereo tracks, all routed done through channels.
If this is, however, achievable in Waveform in any way other than pre-rendering midi clips by notes, then please lend me a hand.
As side notes: please add some sort of visual response to the piano roll when editing midi clips because it doesn't really show what note is receiving input from a keyboard; and second, I know that it's possible to automate I/O routings sequentially within racks, but a specialized stereo channel could be better or faster if automating isn't really an option (might be or not a necessary function for some other users):
