How to Capture MIDI Data to Individual Track in Multi-Out Rack (NOT the Output Audio)

I'm working with Waveform 10 Free Edition (from Computer Music Magazine) and I want to see if it is possible to capture the MIDI data to its own track, similar to capturing MIDI audio output to its own track.

I am using MT Power Drumkit 2 as a multi-output rack. Using its mixer, I assigned its outputs to the individual kit components and I have sent the output audio to individual tracks in Waveform (kick, snare, toms, etc.). The audio for each kit channel can be heard and recorded properly on individual tracks.

What I am looking to do now is capture each kit piece's MIDI source data on its own separate track. Is that possible? So I would have my main MIDI track, with all of the kit pieces' parts, a separate audio track for recording the audio of each piece and a separate MIDI data track for each piece capturing its specific data.

Here is the rack I'm using. The track "Drum MIDI" contains the full kit MIDI data. I only have the kick drum hooked up at the moment so that the display is easy to read. The red MIDI line to the right of the plugin doesn't seem to allow it to be wired to an output channel and seems to remain trapped in the center section's box. How do I handle the MIDI data to get it to pass to an output track?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

One way I think I would do it is that you can take an empty rack, connect the midi in- and output to allow MIDI pass through. Then use a MIDI note filter like MIDI Polysher to filter out the respective notes of each channel.

So e.g. your MTPD2 kick is on C3, you use a rack to pass through the MIDI from your MTPD2 track to the kick track (and all the other tracks) and use MIDI Polysher (or any other MIDI note filter) to filter out C3 so that the kick track only gets the C3 MIDI note inputs.

Thanks for the very helpful reply. I just saw it today, so long after you posted. Your solution worked, so I can now filter using Ploysher for each individual note of the drum kit.

The final task I want to accomplish is to record/save the actual MIDI notes for each component of the kit. I want to print the audio onto separate tracks, and the actual MIDI notes for each component onto a separate track. So I would have the kick drum's audio on its own, and another track with the source MIDI notes in a MIDI clip for the kick. I want to separate out each instrument because I may want to use that instrument's source as a quick basis on future projects.

Thanks again for your helpful suggestion. I really appreciate it.

Personally I would just get the midi all on one track, duplicate that track as many times as I was interested in, and just lassoo the notes I wasn't interested in, in each track, and delete those.

So wipe everything except the kick on one track, everything except snare on another, etc.

But I'm assuming this is an infrequent thing, and you're not actually looking to make loads of loops where you have just a kick drum, saved as both midi and audio, and just a snare drum, saved as separated midi and audio. I wouldn't have a great general use for that. You may do though, depending on what you're doing
"my gosh it's a friggin hardware"
