Meldaproduction equivalent to Zynaptiq's Unfilter?

It looks to me as though MSpectralDynamics is capable of doing this but I can't get a result quite as clear as Unfilter. The flattening preset seems to do it to a degree but its a more compressed version, maybe since there is no resonance learning?
Any thoughts out there on how to do restoration in the style of Unfilter?

. I tried it, but I just didn't figure out what it is for

The main purpose is to identify resonances and reduce them. But in doing so its quite good at restoring "fidelity". It's good for reducing boxiness in recordings and that sort of thing. Hey Dave,
There's a few tools that play in this area. The auto eqs can detect and remove resonances as well as you could compare a capture against a flat line to see how it tries to get a more traditional eq approach.
Freeform eq is also an alt approach to this too.
Spectral dynamics has a threshold detect too, so you could use that rather than the flat line that's used in that flattening preset.

Thanks yes I have tried these today after the original post. Even with a lot of work I can't get the restoration as thorough or as pleasant as Unfilter. It's probably possible with these tools and maybe others can get there quicker.vectorwarrior wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2020 2:24 am Hey Dave,

It indeed seems that it is kinda a matching EQ under the hood. Hard to say, when there's time, I'll check, but it will probably take a while.

I just grabbed the Unfilter audio in that video and tried to replicate the effect in MFreeformEQ, using the auto EQ and the 'draw' functionality. With the band pass effect I could definitely clean things up but nowhere near as good as the results from Unfilter. It's a pretty incredible effect and I'd love to have that kind of functionality in a melda affect, so it's a good call out by Dave IMO.
I wonder if we just need a comparison curve in the auto-EQ's optimised for this purpose, as the draw functionality lacks the consistency of a xdB slope setting, such as the one in MSpectralDynamics. If you could easily generate a perfect curve (with slope control for extra taste) then the existing MFreeformEQ auto-EQ maybe could work.
Curious to know what Vojtech thinks. I know it's not the priority right now with MSoundFactory, but this is a pretty awesome tool!

One interesting technique I was playing with yesterday was using spectral dynamics, grabbing a capture of the signal, then right clicking the graph and selecting 'mirror Y'. The result is a threshold that is the inverse of the contents of the signal. This means you can spectrally compress the signal more in places where there is a build up, focusing on those areas.
After much testing though, I couldn't create anything near the quality of unfilter and it's an area that is lacking in melda tools.
An alternative is Acon defilter, but I've been testing that and unfilter gets better results IMO, at least until they update defilter.
My preference would be a melda spectral dynamics like effect that, rather than simple compression/expansion, tries to encourage signals across the frequency range towards a target curve; a frequency matcher. I've asked for a 'spectral mphatik' before, this is essentially what I'm talking about. Although my dream would be the ability to spectrally match to a live side chain signal, rather than just a static curve. That would allow true morphing, current morph technologies are really just spectral envelope stamping, not matching. So this tool could essentially achieve fantastic restoration/polishing/mastering AND creative applications.

. Anyway I don't think this Unfilter does that, hard to say though. Anyways if it does, then you should be able to do that with MSpectralDynamics by setting input gain high, ratio to maximum and a custom threshold curve.
