MIDI track crashes every VST plugin

Hi, folks, got an urgent task to fulfill and Tracktion 7 gives me the creeps with a so far to me unknown problem:
Yesterday I was recording a simple harp track (MIDI, VSCO sketch harp plugin, 8 bars long, nothing fancy), I edited it until it sounded fine and saved everything.
Today: the track did not play anymore. Nor did the plugin, when checking. I reloaded it, tested it with my MIDI keyboard and everything was just fine. I put the cursor on the track's starting point and restarted. It played a few notes and then abruptly stopped. Obviously the plugin had crashed. All the others went just fine. I tried a few things such as replacing the sketch harp with another plugin ... same effect. I checked on CPU capacity and it was between 17 and 24% all through the track. It crashed in solo mode, too.
I then thought about a workaround. I copied the track into another file in order to render it there and put it into the arrangement as an audio track. Bad idea! Although this new file was empty and the only opened edit, the same thing happened. It crashed the plugin. In fact, it crashed EVERY plugin, I tested, even a simple piano plugin. So the problem seems to be the track itself.
Apart from rerecording it ... what might be the problem in this case? Any solutions?

Try exporting the MDI clip as a MIDI file, then reimporting that MIDI file back in.

Ah, haven't noticed that possibility before. I will try that next time, because for now I rerecorded that part. Tracktion does have a way to change MIDI parts by itself. Now I've got a track with loads of modulation. I have never recorded modulation on that track ... :-/
