problems duplicating MIDI clip

Ok, I am using Waveform 10 on a PC. Writing out the simplest of drum parts in the MIDI editor... I want to simply duplicate a four-bar section as many times as I need it. I have done this before, but never noticed a problem, at least not that I remember.
So, I carefully mark out a four-bar section, taking time to make sure the start and end are right, Press D to duplicate it... and the duplicate copy is wrong. The notes don't land on the beat, there will be space added at the front of the clip that throws everything back a few ticks, sometimes as much as a half a beat more or less. Sometimes individual notes are moved more than others, sometimes time is copied before the marker points. It happens every time. Sometimes the first duplicate isn't off too bad at all, but the more I duplicate, the worse it gets.
I have tried this on two different computers, the same results. Is this some kind of bug that I don't know about?

I just tried the same exact operation with Tracktion 7 and it worked perfectly. Waveform 10, no joy.

Do you have the size of the clip set to exactly 4 bars, make sure you haven't accidentally dragged the end of MIDI clip to an uneven start point, this can happen easily when you zoom in a lot. can you post a .gif image here of what you are doing exactly thanks?. :)

ok I reread your post, so ignore the above, but still upload a gif if possible.

The first image shows a four bar piece of a simple drum track. Snap is on, and I have the start and stop parts lined right up.
Image2.jpg
The second image shows what happens after one duplication, the selected part is what was pasted by duplicating. You can clearly see the added space at the end, and if you look carefully, ALL of the notes are moved behind the beat a bit, actually 20 ticks.

The third image shows what happens after I trim the first duplicate back to four bars even and hit D again. Now, by the second duplicate, you can clearly see the notes are so far off and the whole operation is NOT working for me. The same result on two different machines.
Tracktion 7 does this perfectly.

It works for me in Waveform 10 on linux. I notice there's an offset on the midi clip in one of your screenshots. Shouldn't the offset be zero ? When I duplicate the offset remains at zero.

On further investigation I think it is an offset problem. Try using the "Delete notes beyond the start and end of clip" command ("Delete midi content" menu) to remove the offset before duplicating.

Hello, thanks, that seems to have made a big difference, and the notes look like they are being placed where they are supposed to fall. BUT... when I duplicate what is a four-bar section, the duplicate has some blank space on the end, about 1/2 measure. I can trim the extra off, duplicate again and the extra space returns. Now what?

I can't reproduce that behaviour, it duplicates perfectly for me if there's no offset on the clip. Does it do that with a newly created midi clip? If not you may have some strange setting on the clip or it's a bug in the Windows version.
