FR: New Step Seq Per-Step Options

While using various other software & hardware sequencers I've thought of a two additions which would, for me, take the MU Sequencer to the next level. In addition to the Vel-Oct-Trn-Len-Offs-Mod options it would cool to have two more options per step; Div (Division/Ratcheting effect) and Prb (Probability that the step will be triggered).
Add those options and we'd be in Tangerine Dream space very quickly!
Add: It would also be nice to have a Direction option for the Step Sequencer as a whole (Up, Down, Ping-Pong, Hourglass, Random, etc...)

To be fair, one can perform a pseudo-ratcheting by going into the extended lane option and creating a timing difference between note repeats (up to four repeats). Not ultra-elegant but it's pretty decent and while a wee tedious to configure (as there are many options to give you a unique sound so you'll spend time exploring the possibilities), I'm liking the results (especially with some extra delay).

Well I'm guessing actual note division wouldn't be too hard to implement but I appreciate the work around solution until then. The demo is so restrictive and I'm still evaluating it but the no midi chase with notes is probably a show stopper for me.sdv wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2020 6:17 pmTo be fair, one can perform a pseudo-ratcheting by going into the extended lane option and creating a timing difference between same (or different) note repeats (up to five repeats). Not elegant but with some delay added it's passable.

Midi chase with notes, I'm unaware of that feature, what is its purpose?

Some of my music is long drawn out pads and atmospheres that go for measures and if I put the edit cursor in the middle of those long notes or even a shorter note it won't play back. I would have to put the cursor at the start of the long notes in order for mulab to "pick up" those notes and play them so needless to say that's a serious pita.sdv wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2020 5:01 pm Midi chase with notes, I'm unaware of that feature, what is its purpose?

I see. Not sure how MIDI works with that but I'll look it up.Doc Brown wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2020 1:59 amSome of my music is long drawn out pads and atmospheres that go for measures and if I put the edit cursor in the middle of those long notes or even a shorter note it won't play back. It's more how a DAW handles a stream of MIDI events, than how MIDI works. If an event happened in the past (i.e. before the play head), does the DAW go back in time to find it and then silently work out how things would sound now (i.e. at the play head) before starting the play head and playing, or does it just start acting on events after the play head (i.e. not yet played). If a note started in the past, the MIDI Note On event happened in the past, so won't happen again. Without some action by the DAW, that long pad you triggered or chord you held a couple of bars back won't sound.

Well it may not quite be ratcheting but can give some interesting results.
Put a step sequencer or sequence player before it or even just play with real fingers and put a synth after it. Works best with short or percussive notes and sometimes you can get hanging notes if you disable modules before the note off command happens

Ahhh... yes. I know what your talking about now. I have the same issue. Is there any DAW with that feature (as I haven't seen it in FL Studio or Waveform)?Doc Brown wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2020 1:59 amSome of my music is long drawn out pads and atmospheres that go for measures and if I put the edit cursor in the middle of those long notes or even a shorter note it won't play back. Reaper has it and so does Studio One but that's as much as I know.sdv wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 6:44 pmAhhh... yes. I know what your talking about now. I have the same issue. Waveform has MIDI chase. Bitwig just recently added it. It's kind of a hit and miss feature. I know many who swear by it, and others, like myself, who dislike it (modulations are potentially out of time due to a late start).

Good to know Waveform has it. I rarely use that DAW and when I do it's to use Biotek in its 'native' host with a lot of automation. So, I can see the point that modulations probably wouldn't track well if you try and start a 5 minute sound at the 3 minute mark and hope it sounds as it 'should' had it started at the beginning.
