MSF: Reduce CPU load on a device…best ways?

I've hit on a specific "factory device" (jmg's lovely String Theory) that really whacks the CPU meter and can cause crackling from my aging iMac in Logic. Wondering what the various strategies might be for reducing the load. It makes me wish for Reaktor's built-in sample-rate adjuster, which hardly ever makes a noticeable difference to the sound when cutting it down a bit, but does really reduce the load…

I've tried specifying fewer voices on the Easy Screen Globals tab, and setting the EDIT mode Globals quality to Low, as well as lowering the Frames per Second number and setting Smart Interpolation/Normal to Minimal on the Settings popup. None of that made much difference. Any other ideas?
TIA!

That depends on the settings really. I'd enable "Multi-core" (if your aging computer has more cores :) ), lower the quality in the Edit screen Globals. If that won't help you are sort of out of luck. From looking at what the instrument does, the bottleneck is pretty clearly the Unison, so you can lower the number of unison voices, but that will certainly change the sound...
