Would someone please explain to me how to use this module?
As is typical of Vojtek, his approach is different than I would naturally expect and I find myself unable to decipher it. (Was actually expecting it as a modulator!)

Thanks in advance.

It works well with the GenCustomMod.

I just give you one possible setup.
So let's consider the inputs
1.) The Source: This is where values are "sampled" from.
In my Example Patch it is a very slowly runnig Sine LFO
2.) The trigger: It's the sidechain input from the module. It tells S&H when to pick a new value. You can use a LFO here for instance
In my Example Patch it is a Saw Tooth at 1 Hz

The Output: Route the output to a GenCMod Module. Let's say you set it to #1. Then you could pick Custom1 as source for modulation. It's a bit of indirection because MSF is a bit different to "traditional" modular systems.

What the patch does. While you press a key the "Source" LFO is running. Each Second (see The Trigger Running at 1 Hz) a sample is picked from the Sine LFO. This Value is routet to the GenCMod Module, which in turn modulates the Filter.

Now if you press a key and hold it down for more than 1 second, then you will here the S&H change the value off the filter cutoff each second.

You can check the following patch:
Click "Select All". Copy selected Text into clipboard. Change to MSF. Go to Toolbar. Click Paste-Button

Code: Select all

From my feature request thread here's another patch: viewtopic.php?p=7521335#p7521335
And here's another one: viewtopic.php?f=138&t=526604&p=7544156& ... d#p7544156
Here's my very early attempt to pick grains in sampler: viewtopic.php?f=138&t=533126

Sorry, no fancy videos or "tutorial with pictures". Hope that may patches help you to understand the S&H module by deconstructing the patches.

have fun & stay healthy

Thanks Peter! That is exactly what I needed for a jump start.
