Hello

I have been using T almost exclusively for audio to date. Can I ask some basic midi q's:

1. How do I enter notes step by step from a midi keyboaord, rather than a mouse?

2. How do I skip a note ( i.e., leave a space) in between notes entered on a midi keyboard?

3. How do I define the length of the notes entered?

4. Can I nominate triplets, if so how?

5. How do I alter the volume/velocity of the recorded midi notes?/Draw in a velocity ramp?

Thanks a lot.

Hello Bill :)

what you seem to be describing is step programming. It is possible using Trackton but there are a couple of tools that make this easier.

The first is using Modulars Stepchild. Its a free download from his site and is very nice to work with.

The second is EnergyXT. It has all the features you are asking about and works very well Trackton. It isnt free but it is very reasonable for what it can do.

Here are the links...

http://www.xt-hq.com/download/ (the beta is stable for me plus it has alot of new goodies)
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion,
It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed,
The hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning,
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

That's interesting. :) Do you mean that even the step entering of notes using a midi keyboard (rather than drawing them in with a mouse) is not possible without additional software just now?

Yes.

Midi functionality is due an overhaul in Tracktion 2. Bear in mind the app developed from a need to record audio quickly and intuitively, midi support isn't as fully featured as some of the older sequencers, although this is expected to improve with the new version of T.

But Mod's stepchild was built specially for Tracktion, works great, and is free
"my gosh it's a friggin hardware"
