No audio output

I decided to try the free version of Waveform 11. I installed the program and did the various required setups. But when I plug in my guitar I don't get any sound. Waveform is receiving the audio because I can see the signal when I strum, but there is no output.

I can play the downloaded songs that come with Waveform, and the audio is fine. I downloaded the ASIO drivers but when I turned on Waveform with ASIO drivers installed I couldn't get any sound from any program. I would just get "Audio Renderer Error. Please restart your computer." I have no idea how to fix the problem.

1. Audio inputs need to be armed to be heard.

2. You might also need to make sure the audio engine keeps running even during stopped playback. It's a menu item bottom left.
Options > Run audio engine when stopped

3. ASIO usually only allows one program to access the sound device at a time. It's not an error, it's how it's meant to work. In most cases, you would have an external audio device for your DAW and let the basic computer sound card be used by all the non-DAW software. If you're using ASIO to control the basic computer sound card then everything except your DAW will probably be unable to make any noise.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

I had it armed as you suggested but I'm still not getting any sound. I thought ASIO might have been a problem so I did uninstall it, but even without ASIO there's no audio.

Should I reinstall ASIO, and are there instructions on how to properly configure ASIO so that it only controls the DAW?

So on the left side the meters are moving when you play your guitar but they are not moving on the right? Does it record audio? It's probably best to find out the exact point that the audio gets stopped. Did you maybe add a VST instrument on that track? Turn the volume down? Did you make sure that the audio engine is running when stopped? If you arm the track and press play can you hear the audio? If you add an audio clip into that track does it make a sound during playback? What about adding an audio clip to a different track?
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Thank you for taking the time to assist me in trying to get the audio corrected. I will work on those things later today and then get back to you.

I figured out the problem. I needed to click on the Live Input Monitoring in settings. Now I'm trying to deal with terrible latency issues.
