Can't get Audio Output from Midi apart from some Synths

Hi

I'm new to Waveform 11 Free and am working my way through the manual. All good until I get to Midi Set Up and try and get audio output from eg Piano.

I can see the midi is working ok and if I use eg 4OSC: Basic Poly then audio output is fine. But if I choose eg Grand Piano then nothing, similar for all others I try apart from eg 4OSC types.

The manual example uses Waveform FM Synth and says to drop it left of Volume and Pan - then if you play some notes you should hear it. Well I don't appear to have Waveform FM Synth but even if I did, I imagine I'd still have the problem with Grand Piano. Likewise if I try a Bass plug in, 4OSC: Rubber Bass WMF works just fine but nothing with Bass Funk.

I'm guessing I'm just being dumb and missing something obvious but I don't what!

Grateful for any advice.

The "Grand Piano" and "Bass Funk" presets are effect chains. They don't include an instrument, they're just common effects for those types of instrument. And in my case they are nothing because I don't have the plugins in them. I think they might be from the DAW Essentials Collection. (https://www.tracktion.com/products/daw- ... collection)

Presets can be pretty much anything. They can be synth presets, effect presets, Rack presets, track presets... Yes, you can save an entire track (or multiple tracks) as a preset to load into your edits. Note that a Rack can but doesn't have to include an instrument.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Ah - ok! Got it! Hah, obvious I guess when you're familiar with everything. All that help stuff but doesn't actual tell a beginner that it's an effect not an instrument.

Many thanks for your help.
