I'm guessing the decision to have the Control Panel minimized by default has to do with maximizing everything else and perhaps also looking more like other DAWs. But so many of the tasks I perform on a regular basis require it to be maximized and I (almost) never want it to be minimized.

Is there are way to have the default be maximized?

To be honest, I think it should be maximized by default for the sake of new users, as well. So many instructions assume that it's maximized. Changing the track name. Choosing, loading, or saving a VST preset. Disabling and enabling a plugin. Clip name, loop properties. Step Clip channel adding/deleting/clearing/selecting...

The Control Panel has long been one of Tracktion/Waveform's greatest features. Why hide it?

It should be a changeable default; and default it should take it's "rightful spot" in it's full glory; to be minimized (even defaulted) by the experienced users once they're comfortable with it being hidden much of the time.

I just fielded a question from a new user on Facebook who had no idea how to select a preset for a VST. Not all VSTs have their own preset browsers. The full Control Panel makes it easy. The minimized one make it possible through the Actions tab, but by default the "Program" and "Preset" actions are not starred. You'd need to know that it's possible to add them and also how to add them to make plugin presets accessible.

I would prefer that it start maximized also. I never liked the minimized option since they introduced it, and having it minimize itself by default all the time does get to be annoying.

You could save an empty edit with it maximized as a template. And use that for your new projects. You could even set it up with your go to vsts etc

Agreed, it wouldn't be bad to be able to configure your desired default. On the positive side, you can quickly toggle between the two with F11, and virtually everything found in the Control Panel is now mirrored in the Actions tab, with the added advantage of being able to limit what shows up to your 'favorite' features to cut down on the clutter, as well as being able to add macros to the list. (It's been a hard slog for me to condition myself to look 'up and left' as opposed to the bottom of the screen for those things, but for me, vertical space is often at a bigger premium than horizontal, so I prefer the smaller panel).
