I'm very basic in my DAW skills, so if someone could talk me through it :)
The manual starts basically what you can do AFTER you've set it up in your DAW (as did Chandler's video, nice one makes me want to use this plugin) but doesn't really tell me HOW to set it up.
Thanks

Ok, I mastered it in Reaper, put the effect before an instrument on the track..

Not sure this helps but some things I noticed. I don't think Studio One can send Midi CC using an FX plugin. It can do it with instruments though. I'm sure Studio One can receive at least Midi key info from an FX plugin take (Scaler 2 Audio FX version) but I can't get MCCG to work. HY-Plugins have similar plugins that send out CC values which all work but they are technically instruments which MCCG isn't.

Also note that you should use VST, not VST3 (which most DAWs don't support yet when it comes to plugin MIDI output) and definitely not AU (where it generally doesn't seem to work).

Even using VST2 in Studio One doesn't work. It outputs Midi info but the Midi output has to come from a software instrument for the midi cc values to be mappable to a param from another plugin in S1. So an instrument (non fx) version would be the only way to get it working in Studio One. Actually all my Midi plugins are instruments so I'm not sure why MCCGenerator is any different. Even HY-plugins which are in the same lane as MCCGenerator all come as instruments and not fx plugins. A quick / clean solution may be adding an MCCGenerator module to MSF?

MCCGenerator has an audio input, for the Modulators. Plug-in instruments do not have an audio input.

I don't see how that's relevant to the OPs question..

For the side-chain input? That's the extra cherry on top feature. I'd rather have cake without the cherry than no cake at all..

And it'd be different if this was a common thing but I've never run into any issues with Studio One and routing midi until this.

I was testing the Scaler 2 beta for months until release and they ran into the same issue. They needed it to be an instrument so the midi could be passed correctly regardless of DAW but they also wanted the new audio detection feature but instruments didn't have an audio input so they:

1. Made the regular instrument but added the ability to drag audio in for the detection
2. (More importantly) they added an FX version of the plugin so that the detection could still happen live using an audio input if needed
3. Made a midi FX version for Logic users

Scaler being, by far, the most popular Midi FX out there, I think it says something that they settled for both. Scaler isn't the only plugin that's adopted this sort of solution.

Anyway, a module in MSF would be really cool

Probably a bit late, however there is a way to make MCCGenerator work with Studio One (unfortunately Studio One doesn't offer any modulation capabilities apart from automation).

You need a virtual MIDI port like "loopMIDI" and it's a bit of a complicated routing. It's all nicely explained here:

Just make to sure to set "Smart Interpolation" to "minimal" in the settings of MCCGenerator - otherwise the virtual MIDI port overloads quickly (at least on my machine).
