Or is it just noise and should be taken out? Do you guys know any examples where breating has been used for a good effect.. or for a BAD effect??
have you never heard 'girl' by the beatles?
have you never listened to bjork?
I think breathing sounds work.
lip smacking noises generally are noise (thanks ixox)

No one incorperates it as well as bjork.

All depends on the singer.
In case it's a good one, he/she will breath just at the right moments, making things just sound natural, or (in some cases) even adding some extra (wanted!) tension.

I once heard a story of a popular singer who made an engineer put the breaths back in the reel after he made the descision to cut them out. This was during tape times. No undo on the reels. Not sure if it was a true story.

prolly sounded unnatural without the breaths.

i tend to take some breaths out. all depends how it sits in the mix and how the emotion or "feel" of the song is. tedious as hell though.

Subtle nuances make music sound 'real'. The finger slide noise on a guitar, the little breath noises and lip movements, the way a drum stick heads a drum head, etc. There's a point where it might get a bit 'excessive', but I'd leave 'em in.

I always leave em in cos I've got such great lungs I only have to breathe once at the start of the song :hihi:

Sounds more natural with the breathing left in to me too. If they're too obtrusive then you've either got shite mic technique or too much compression, or both. Hello Remco. :D

I leave them in, those that get past the gate on my vocal channel, anyway. Keeps the sibilant clutter to a minimum but doesn't make me sound like some kind of Mr. Roboto (lol).
