Hi all,
I am attempting to build some CC control patches with my PC1600X for Zebra2. My idea was to assign 14 of the 16 faders thusly
CC for filter1&2 on cc 14-27 on midi channel 1
CC for filter 3&4 on CC14-27 on midi channel 2
and once I get that working I can move on to other parts of the synth. The problem I am having is that even tho the midi channels are different on the PC1600x programs, and read different on my computers MIDI monitor, Zebra is reading both as channel 1!
I have been banging my head against this for a while so I am asking here in hopes of a forehead smacking aha moment. This forum had the most Zebra2 midi idiot threads, so here I am.
I tried rerouting and filtering messages from each channel to the IAC bus in my MIDI patchbay program. I tried editing the com.u-he.Zebra2.midiassign.txt to change the settings I wanted to channel 2 in the hopes they would respond and I also did a short and enthusiastic rain dance hoping that it might fix it.
When I midi learn with the two different programs Zebra records them as MIDI ch 1 CC (and so the same) while the midi monitor sees them as different.
I am no midi master. Is there some global channel business i am ignorant to or some other such secret? Please help.
I am getting the same behavior in both pro tools and ableton. I tried various track midi inputs and checked the audio/MIDI setup . I am using an ancient midisport 8x8 and mac 10.13.2

That's a limitation of the host, not of the plugin.
Some hosts will, by default, redirect all incoming MIDI messages to one channel.
So despite you sending MIDI messages on multiple channels, Ableton, and Pro Tools too, will direct all those messages to channel one before sending them to the plugin.
It might be possible to change this behaviour in the settings or preferences of the hosts, but I had a quick look, and could not find a way to change it.
You might have to check the manuals of the hosts on how to do it (if it's possible).

Oh my that is frustrating. Thank you for the quick and insightful answer. After automating a parameter from a Nektar Midi controller on global channel 4 I can see you are absolutly right! Curses my dreams of a useful controller for Zebra are dashed for now. I will just set a few hot knobbed parameters for now and call it a day.

Surely PT as well as Ableton Live would let you switch '"channelisation" off?

I haven't found any similar option in Ableton Live yet.
