Hi,

if I am understanding and using MSpectralDynamics correctly, it dynamically adjusts the sound towards a flat target line. One can exclude parts of the spectrum from processing (or apply fewer processing), but to manipulate/set the target curve/line seems not possible. Or am I wrong? If not: please, take this as a feature request. (And it would be great if curves could be imported from saved spectrum files from your AutoEqs like MAutodynamic)

You can do that already. Use the threshold capture. Check out the videos for it and you should figure it out pretty quickly

Hi, thanks for your reply. But as I understand it, threshhold capture captures the source spectral profile not the target profile. Also the manual describes it like that.

Capture will be captured from the source indeed, but it is applied to the target. So actually, source and target are the same (if you are not using sidechain). So what are you wanting to do? If you want to manually draw a shape, then just use the threshold curve. If you wish to capture something, then use capture feature and it will capture either the sidechain (source) and apply it to the target OR capture the input (source) and apply it to the target.

As far as the graphs reveal, the capture feature just "freezes" the input/source analysis for more consistent sound. As the processing graph shows (the upper line which "reacts" to the current input) the target is still a flat line. What I want is to either manually or via sampled profiles change that target from a flat line to something else ("linearity" is not always what you want). If source and target were the same, as you claim, it would not make any sense, since no processing would take place. At least this is my understanding which, of course, can be wrong with such a difficult to understand plugin like MSpectralDynamics ;-)

Source and Target are terms used to describe audio signals that are different from each other when using sidechain. Typically the plugin will analyse the Source (the sidechain input) and that will determine what type of processing will be applied to the Target (the input)

So are you using sidechain in this example? If not, the source and target are the same thing, or better still, no need to use the terminology at all.

The threshold graph will let you draw a custom shape. Did you figure out how to do this yet?

Hi, thanks a lot jmg8. I am not using sidechain. In my concept (which may be wrong) the plugin applies to the source signal a processing which targets a flat frequency response. That processing can be shaped. Among others, with the threshold curve you show. So with the threshold curve one can adjust the amount of (compression) processing across the spectrum which is applied to the input. At least this is what I understand from watching the videos and reading the manual. However, the plugin will still apply this (more or less) processing towards the target (equal distribution over the sprectrum). Of course, when applying different amounts of processing to different sprectrum areas (as in your example) the result will not be an equal distribution over the spectrum. Any result can, in fact, be achieved. But this approach is different to being able to define the target. I am thinking of something like a match eq. You analyse a reference track. Save that as the target curve. Then you import the saved target curve to the track where you want to apply it. With the threshold control you could then still define areas where to apply more or less matching. I believe this workflow is not (yet) possible with MSpectralDynamics. Cheers, AKJ

Hi, would be nice to have a simple five band eq mode like Soothe. It’s not that flexible, but faster than the drawing frequency graph.

I'm a bit lost with your post if I'm being honest. I think that the threshold is exactly what you want. As it compresses towards it. What is it you are actually wanting to aceive? Are you looking for a dynamic matching of 2 audio signals?

Not a matching of the dynamics, but, yes, dynamic spectrum matching. So it would be essential be able to save (and freedraw) target curves that can be loaded when needed. With the threshhold one could then additionally apply less or more processing to specific parts of the spectrum. So a) I cannot save and load profiles, and b) one would still need want the threshhold as it is. I hope I was now clearer ;-)

OK, so good news.
You already can save and load the shapes, just right click on the graph and the pop up has it there somewhere (not in front of my computer right now)
As for the threshold, well, it already does what you want. You are basically asking for a second threshold that sort of scales/modifies the first one. This can be done with just 1 shape (although harder to use). I doubt that Vojtech will add another threshold. But maybe a new Dry/Wet graph would be better anyway? This way you could use the threshold to match and the dry/wet to increase/reduce incertain frequencies. Would that work?
