I want to take the output of a synthesizer and spread the stereo output to the left and right, so that there is no signal in the middle. Do I need a certain plugin for that or can it be done with some racks tricks?

You can create a duplicate track of the synth (copy and paste from the clipboard)and then pan one to left and one to the right.

insert a short delay of 5-10ms on 1 of the tracks after you have panned them, maybe a slight detune on 1 also, thatll work well if your initial track is mono.
waves make a nice 1 called s-imager but thats for stereo material.

Although im sure ive seen some freebies too.
Is the track you wanna spread mono or stereo ?

That would entire centre the sound.AndrewSimon wrote:You can create a duplicate track of the synth (copy and paste from the clipboard)and then pan one to left and one to the right.
Panning is just a process of increasing or decreasing the amount of a given mono signal in each stereo channel. Equal amounts of a signal on both channels gives centre pan.
You need to actually make the sounds different on each stereo channel. The more different the sounds are the more hard the panning effect will be, and consequently the greater the appearance of space in the center of the stereo image.
Delaying one channel as TMA2k suggests is a good place to start. Altering[1] the EQ charcteristics of the sound for each stereo channel can also give good results.
[1] for example, cut the bass slightly, and notch out some upper mids on the right hand speaker, and cut the treble on the left with a corresponding notch in the lower mids.

You can create the delay on one of the tracks by moving one of the clips a few tics one way or the other, or you can put mda stereo image on the track and not use the track doubling method.
