hi guys and girls, looking to buy a cheap pc for music production running the fully loaded FLstudio DAW. any adice on where to buy the pc from? budget upto £700 but very ahppy to spend less. i want to minimise wasting money on unneccasary graphics cards etc as this is only gonna be used to play around with making beats by myself and my young son who plays the drums is getting into digital music. Also any thoughts on FLstudio? im going that route as ive used befoer so know my way around it ok and like the fact has lifetime updates.
i apreciate alot of experienced folks in here and this is a pretty boring question but any info would be much apreciated especially on where to purchase pc.many thanks
Andy :-)

I would build the computer, there are many tutorials on youtube on how to do it. A custom PC is also upgradable so over time you can keep it current without spending much.

As for the parts, I would start with a ryzen CPU they are the best band for the money right now.

Building your own PC is really easy even if you've never done it before. Very little you can mess up unless you buy the wrong parts or aren't careful with the CPU.

I'd probably get something with an integrated graphics solution, like the Ryzen APUs or an Intel Core i3-10100. What suits you best depends on your local prices and whether you want to be able to upgrade the thing later on or not. Add to that a cheap mainboard, a small PSU (350-400W), a 500 GB SSD, 16 GB of RAM, a cheap case and if you need it a monitor and peripherals and you should be fine.

If you buy it prebuilt you'll likely pay more for worse parts, but it's definitely more convenient. 700 pounds should be plenty for this.

My thoughts
CPU choice,I wouldn't get an i3 ,if you have the budget get an Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 ,you need a strong multicore CPU
Definitely 16gb ram,At least a 500mb SSD
Graphics are usually on-board as is the soundchip
Plus of course peripherals,mouse,keyboard,monitor

From an upgrade perspective the AMD would be better regardless, but don't underestimate the current i3. Recently put a 10100F in one of my builds and these are quite nice - 4C/8T now (instead of 4T with the 9100F) and about on par with the Ryzen 3 3100 while being a bit cheaper where I live. The 10100 (with iGPU) is also still cheaper than the AMD equivalent.

Don't see myself running into CPU issues with either AMD or Intel quad cores soon, don't think it'll be an issue for the OP either. These are decent even for gaming and an occasional Twitch stream.

The R5 3600 you suggest is a great CPU, but it's more expensive and the op would need to add some GPU, which adds even further (GPU prices seem still stupidly high anyway :( ).

I have the I9400 and it performs extremely well compared to the i3 system I had before, but it was a 5y old system

The Ryzen 5 3600 overall is 10% faster than the I9400
I don't think you need an expensive GPU for FL studio, onboard Intel/AMD I would think would be ok

You will need more than a 240ssd, that will fill up very quickly with Windows, updates,VSTs and whatever else you install.
A 500gb SSD would be a better solution
And if possible a hard drive you can use as back up so you don't lose all your project files and VSTs if Windows ever needs reinstalling.
