I've been working on MTurboAmp and have been trying to come up with something. I made this amp which was inspired by a twin reverb amp(I added a presence & gain knobs though). I tried to make something that is low gain and mostly for clean sounds, but can get a bit dirty for blues or light rock. I tried a somewhat different approach to the presence control and the sag.

Before you try it with guitar remember it will need MCabinet or an IR for speaker simulation. Anyway, I'd like some feedback on the overall tone, usability and especially the presence and sag. I was thinking of adding a bright switch and a spring reverb, but is there anything else missing? Are the tone controls working well for you? Does it feel alright? To try it just copy and paste the code below into MTA. Thanks

Hi chandler, just a thought, maybe you could share an ir or a MCabinet preset you designed the amp with as it can drastically alter the sound...
I'll test as soon as I can, but that could take some time because I'm pretty busy these days.

Thanks.

You can try the MCabinet setting below, or use whatever you like. Try it with various MCab profiles and IRs if you can. If anyone wants an IR or this I can make one.

I made a new version and I'll attach a few audio samples below(sorry about the old strings and sloppy playing). If you're a guitarist please try this and tell me what you think. The new version has spring reverb and a bright switch added, but for some reason the code is too long to attach here. The basic sound should be the same as the previous version though, so please try that and tell me what you think.

Excellent work Chandler. Sag works really well, and I can see the thinking behind it.
Presence and power amp good too.
And examining what you've done provides a good starting point for further focused meaningful tweaking.
I wish I had more time to contribute.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad to hear it is working for you. I want to make sure everything is good with this, so I can use the ideas for future amps. I want to get a few amps done and then hopefully I'll make a video on how to make them yourself. I hope this can provide people with not only good tones, but also a starting place to do their own tweaking.

Here is the(hopefully) version. I added a bright switch, reverb(which doesn't work here because it won't fit on KVR) and a Z control. The Z control is supposed to mimic speaker impedance, but really just think of it as an EQ that scoops the sound and use your ear. Please tell me if anything seems off. After this I'll try to post something more a bit more rock and roll.

If Z is off, could Resonant frequency be greyed out, to indicate that it has no affect in that case, or even just call it 'Z Resonant frequency'.

I can see that the bright switch changes the HP filter frequency in stage 1, but I don't actually know how this works in terms of multiparameters. "Param 1 - Parameter 2 MaxValue"....I'm lost? My bad, just haven't studied all that yet.
Also, could you explain a bit about your reasoning behind it? I guess different amps have different approaches to 'bright switches'. E.G. I think the old Fender bright switch had less affect as the Vol knob was turned up.

I loaded a spring reverb IR ...sounded good.

Just quick thoughts (Questions for Vojtech probably):

1/ I've noticed that some IRs are much louder than others...could the convolution engine have some kind of normalizing thing?

2/ Convolution can load either reverb or cab IRs...this could be mentioned in the info....or even have two convolution buttons, one labelled 'Reverb IR', the other 'Cab IR' with the engine perhaps optimized accordingly.

3/ I'm assuming the convolution doesn't do 'true stereo' (I'm not saying it should).

4/ Would be good if certain guitar amp devices defaulted to having a spring reverb IR ready to go...would have to be part of the factory install. (EDIT: Or would it?)

Thanks for the advice. I added both. I renamed it "Z resonant frequency" and it now turns off when Z is close to 0%.

The bright switch is similar to what happens on a fender. As the gain is decrease a HP filter moves up in frequency. Of course this is really cutting the lows, but it does make it sound brighter. When you move the gain up it lets though more bass. When the gain is up you won't hear a difference, but when the gain is low you can hear it is noticeably brighter. It should be the same as the real fender amps, but I set the frequencies by ear, so they might different than what you'd get on a real amp.

The spring reverb should be included in the final version. I used the one that comes with MEZConvolution. The only reason it isn't included now is because adding it causes the code to be too long for KVR.

If anyone has anymore questions let me know.

I'll load your new CODE later on and get back, but just quickly:

Ah, the bright switch, I hadn't previously noticed the way you have indeed linked gain to the HP filter. I really need to better understand the whole multiparameter thing.

Re the IR: I have all the Melda IRs (including Guitar Spring X.flac) in my Melda installation, but I have always assumed that they were part of the MConvolutionMB (or EZ) install. Are they actually just there anyway? In other words, for someone who just owned MTurboAmp, would they have access to those IRs? This leads to a general question about Melda 'devices' and their possible dependencies (samples/IRs). Think Kontakt...a 3rd party instrument with say a convolution reverb usually includes the IR in its install package (I think). Just wondering how all this will work with Melda devices.

Having a lot of fun routing my Larrivee through your amp, thanks for this.
That bright switch (MP7) code in this Manager image, Param 1 is the gain control I think, is Parameter 2 where the high pass filter is added to the control? And you set the filter values here?
Image

So when you pick the values from this second image you can choose what value option you want?
Image

So when the gain (in dbs) is decreased it alters the high pass (in hz) using the MaxValue?
Probably I'm way off the mark here but I find possibilities of the Manager incredible (but my brain cells not so incredible). I've watched the videos on making your own instruments but I feel there's so much more not explained.

By the way I use PasteBin https://pastebin.com/ for big chunks of text. Easy to use and free.
Thanks again and thanks for all the information you provide, it's very much appreciated.

Ok, I loaded the latest CODE....American prototype 1.0
All seems good.
I've looked more closely at your multiparameter set up and I'm learning a lot from that.

I guess the reverb is worth having as a sort of 'real amp' thing, but I suspect that most users would just be using other reverb plugins.
It's interesting to see that spring reverb IRs are faithful to the noise/hum in real spring reverbs when turned up! Makes sense of course.

Re future high gain prototypes:
Bearing in mind that in real life high gain band performance (and recording) the reverb would normally be handled post amp it might be better if any reverb convolution was in at least the last gain stage.
