Render is normalizing my tracks?

I havn't been rendering much since ver 1.6.0.1 but I noticed tonight that Tracktion now normalizes when I render.

I was working on an older tune that I had rendered a few midi tracks down to a single audio track a while ago. I made some changes in those midi tracks and made a new render (not an export/import) and it was normalized.

The earlier renders definitely were not normalized. The waveform of the earlier renders is much smaller and quieter.

I can't find anywhere that I can choose to normalize or not. That choice seems to only be for when you want to export as an audio file.

I tried using ver 1.5.1.16 and it normalized the track also.

Has something changed?

Yep, that seems to be true.
I started with version 1.5.1.16 and didn't upgrade to 1.6. Version 1.6 doesn't seems to be usefull for me and I'm not a version race beast.

I didn't notice the normalising since I allways export to audio file and there you can choose to normalize yes/no.

But you are right, when you render it doesn't ask you.

But I could swear that ver 1.5 did not normalize.

I may be mistaken and ver 1.5 did, and I may have been using export back then.

no, I just checked and it doesn't normalise..

you're talking about the 'render track' function, aren't you?

Hi, Jules. Yes I'm talking about render, not export to audio.

I was just coming back to report that as the night wore on and I kept making changes to the midi and then re-rendering, it kept normalizing.

Then, suddenly without me changing what I was doing, it stopped normalizing. I then went on to render 4 or 5 more times and it didn't normalize.

I know it was normalizing because my meters, all of them are quite low on this tune and the rendered file was grazing the edge of the track on the largest peak.

The tracks I did a few weeks ago were no where near that big.

Then, suddenly it stopped doing it and the waves are smaller. I only made very small 1-2db changes in a track or two, or very small EQ changes.

I think we may have an intermittant bug.

bucodi said his was normalizing also.

I've never had this problem. I've got a list of other bugs that need sorting out though.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

well I traced it through and I'd be very surprised if there was a bug there - it very definitely turns off the normalising when it renders. Not really a candiadate for an intermittent problem (at least not in the current version, don't know about older ones)

Maybe it was a VST boosting the levels?
