How to set a default skin in Zebra 2?

Just upgraded to the latest synth where the default skin is DotEight. I want the original skin so I change by clicking on the ZEBRA letters in the synth, and selecting in the menu that comes up there. This works ok, but unfortunately my selection is gone the next time the synth is loaded.

I've also tried to change it by editing the line in \Zebra\Zebra2.data\Support\com.u-he.Zebra2.Preferences.txt ... but no luck.

Any ideas? I can't see anything about it in the manual or on the forum.

That is not where you change it permanently.
Cogwheel located at the upper right, then preferences I believe.

Thanks that was it. I tried the cogwheel but was thrown as it seemed to be all about assigning knobs.

Strange why selecting the skin the normal way would just be something temporary, or why changing the line in the preference file would do nothing. (quite un u-he -like where everything else is so logical and intuitive).

(btw, I now see I was checking an older manual that I had in the main zebra folder. I see the new one is in a subfolder, and there it was all explained)

The right-click menu on the GUI will change the skin of the currently loaded instance of Zebra.
The cogwheel menu sets the default skin that gets loaded whenever you load a new instance.

In order to edit the preferences file, you need to unload the plugin from your host first.

Took me all of 3 seconds to find the correct page by entering "skin" into the PDF search field (Mac Preview). "Default Skin", page 83.
BTW Sorry, I'm particularly grumpy this morning! :borg:

Yes I know, but as I said in my 2nd post, I was looking at the wrong manual. The new one was in another folder.

But as you're here, why can't selecting a skin the normal way be selecting a skin? It seems illogical that it's just to try out a skin, with the assumption that you would never want to keep it. And even if you wanted to revert, it would just be about selecting the previous skin. What's the deal?

Again, I find it quite un -Uhe -like in its unintuitiveness.

Suppose i want different instances to have different GUI's?

Certainly when I used nexus 2 way more often, I would have different GUI skins for different type of sounds (basses red, etc etc etc)

I imagine it is to allow a per instance different gui.

Seems very specialized and rarely used. But if so, shouldn't that be the option buried in settings and not the default one?

Post

Clearly u-he doesn't think so (nor do I for the record).

permanent changes are in preferences, temporary per instance changes are right click.

For all recent releases, the current manual can be opened by clicking on the u-he badge and selecting "User Guide" i.e. you don't have to look in any folders.

Maybe this info should appear during installation - OTOH does anyone read messages during installation?

Howard, how about the point about skins being set in the obvious way, and the option for temporary skins in settings? Opposite to how it is now?

I agree few read anything, best if things are as people expect them.

I think the way it is makes sense, personally.

No, we should do it his way. Cause his way makes sense to him so it should for everyone.

Whereas you want it a certain way as it makes sense to you? Lol
