How to save user presets in Final Mix?

I can save my own pre-sets as fxp files, but how do I save into the Final mix user pre-set folder so they show up in the Final mix pre-set bar?
I tried re-naming the fxp file with the vfi extention that the original Final mix pre-sets use but when I tried to load one I got an error message that it was an invalid file.

Preset handling in this programme seems very buggy. I filed a support request in the Tracktion support forum 3 weeks ago though and still haven't had a reply from anyone offering support so I don't know what to do about this issue - neither the inbuilt or my own presets show up.

You should be able to get the in-built pre-sets.
There should be a Final mix folder in your Tracktion's plug-in folder.
Tracktion > Plugins > 3rd party > finalmix presets. Inside this there should be a factory preset folder and a user presets folder.
Maybe you're missing this.

You can save a preset in Final MIx by going to the "menu" button, then click on "save user preset as...". Then you can access that prweset by clicking on the preset name window just above the "menu" button, then hold the mouse over "user presets" and a list will pop up with your presets on it.
2 things to remember...
1. if you make any changes to your presets, you have to return to the menu and click "save user preset"
2. if you switch to a different edit or project, your user presets will load for the new edit, but the name for the previous edit will remain in the window...
Hope this info helps you out....
good luck..

No its all there - final mix just doesn't show them up. I'm not the only one with this problem. I've tried everything to fix it but no success.PT wrote:You should be able to get the in-built pre-sets.

It seems all the presets supplied are "Final Mix" presets. So while the plugin looks for .fxb or something, it won't find any presents.
However, click on the menu button on the plugin, choose "Load Final Mix" and navigate to the tracktion/plugins/3rd party/Final Mix Presets/Factory presets and there they are. The file ending is '.vfi'.
I must say the documentation supplied with this plugin sucks (well, it is non-existent). The manual is helpful, though, although you have to locate it yourself online...

There seems to be a downloadable pdf-manual for the vst-plugin:
http://www.acumalabs.com/Manuals/FinalMix_OM_RevA.pdf
haven't read it so far so I dunno if there's any solution for the mismanagement of presets inside, I fear it isn't.

Yes I know all that - and I have the manual. I've tried all these things - nothing works and Tracktion support on their forum seems virtually non existant - I've had this question languishing without an answer for weeks.webhunter wrote:It seems all the presets supplied are "Final Mix" presets. It is very strange to add an otherwise excellent plugin like Final Mix - probably to make Tracktion an even more incredible value for money - and then blatantly ignore the user community's cries for some assistance in how to use it.aMUSEd wrote:Yes I know all that - and I have the manual. I have the manual too, and I am unable to make heads and tails of it because I am a novice when it comes to mastering. I get some good results with the factory presents but I have no clue as to how I should configure Final Mix. Hell, I don't even know where in the chain I should use it...

Well, I've used it without having to rely on the manual. Where you put it in the chain depends on what you want to do.I don't even know where in the chain I should use it...
I've used it mostly for what it's intended for: multi-band dynamics plus a pre and post compression eq'ing. I used it this way on some .wav files that I thought I had done a decent mastering job on. Final Mix with the Acuma master to CD preset made them more radio friendly without any work.
If you've got a mix that you just don't like the sound of with an imbalance of low/mid/high as a function of time, - try putting Final Mix in the output filter (down in the lower right corner) and select the very first pre-set, Acuma master to CD.
I've also used it just to clean up inconsistent levels on vocal tracks. There is a preset for vocals and it does a great job on evening out levels and also adds a bit of 'air' to vocals.
I used final mix on the track 'Cerulean Sky' on the vocals and to master the output for CD.
