In audacity you can select an area and when you press space the software only plays the selected area, is there a similar option in Waveform?
Another question, what is the convenient way to select and delete short sections, and before I delete I want to hear what I am going to delete?
Is it possible to play only the selected area?

You can use the In and Out markers along with the LOOP selection in order to play a loop of what's in between the markers. A quick way to do it is to use the Range Selector (I-beam cursor), for me it's shift+alt. Select the portion you want to loop, then use the key command for "set loop to range". That will put your I/O markers at the edges of the range and loop that selection if you are in LOOP mode. You can also use a command to set the loop around a clip if that's easier. Or, just set the I/O for the loop manually with the cursor (I and O keys for me, I have a heavily customized layout so not sure if that was default).
For the second question. You can also use the range tool, but make sure you also have all the tracks highlighted by the range (they will be a slightly different hue). Now you can either pull the clips out all together with the mouse by grabbing one at the header, or you could choose "ripple delete" to remove them and fill in the empty time. Keep in mind that I don't think empty tracks get ripple deleted, but I think there are some workarounds.
There's probably multiple ways to do each thing, best to experiment.
