Not understanding project files / edits system

I really don't understand this. Say I wanted to simply launch tracktion and do a quick mastering tool, and export. I would have to create a new project, a new edit, and it would still save some weird reference to the file i was working on. What if I had to work on ten different files, it would still show each file after I was already done in the project folder. I just don't get it....
