Master Volume Issue

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to DAWs and Traktion in particular and I seem to have done something I can't find a way of undoing.

I've created a song with 4 individual tracks, was listening back to it and moved the master volume up and down a bit as I wanted to just adjust it a bit and when I played it back the adjustments up and down appear to be set in stone and I can't find a way of undoing this or re-setting the whole song to the same master volume the whole way through.

a) Can it be undone and if so, how?

b) Any idea what I did as I haven't been able to do this again as a way of dragging the ups and downs back to the desired level? I've obviously adjusted the master volume while something else was set so the adjustments were included in the mix but for the life of me I can't figure out what or how!

Whilst I could record the whole thing again, I'd rather not as the vocal tracks, in particular took some getting right and are pretty much as I'd want them and I'm not sure I'd manage it again :dog:

Many thanks!

Hi, you've probably recorded automation.
Green and red buttons in transport area. Click them off, and see if that works. Cheers

Hi Terry, I had the green "Automation Read Mode" button selected. I've unclicked that and played the song back through and it's as it should be, thankfully! I was pulling out what little hair I've got left trying to see what I'd done :phew:

Many, many thanks!

One of the problems with having lots of keyboard shortcuts is you can toggle things without even knowing it and then ghosts will start fiddling with your volume levels. The letter Y is the toggle for Automation Write. You probably pressed it and didn't notice that you wrote some automation. Written automation doesn't get displayed by default; you need to specifically request that it be shown. (Hard to do if you don't even know it exists.)

To the left of the area in which you add plugins on a track is a little A button. Click one of those A's on any track, go down to Master Parameters and then select Master Volume. That track will now show you the automation curve points for the Master Volume.

To get rid of the automation points, select the automation line (it will switch from blue to red), make sure the Control Panel at the bottom is in expanded "Actually Useful Mode", then use the red Delete Points from Curve button.

Use the same A button to "Hide automation curves on this track" to make the automation no longer be visible.

I'm recommending that you remove the automation curve points because at any point in time you could press the H button and the ghosts will come back to haunt you.
Surely there must be consensus by now...
