Well, it's nearly done - my first attempt at a song in Tracktion.

www.nowhereradio.com/scottlake

Once there, click 'discography'|singles| 'Cerulean Sky' The other songs there are from ancient days.

1. Brought in Beta Monkey and other drum loops after time stretching them in ACID.

2. Recorded the EP with sfz and a rhodes sf2 that I had, put ndc tremelo on that

3. Recorded my strat through my V-amp 2 into my SBlive card. Added reverb in T with the simple T reverb plugin

5. Bass is sfz playing the jnsgm2.sf2 from the hammersound site and using the fingered bass voice. Use T's compression to smooth it out a little

5. some little sparkly sounds from Green Oak's crystal and panned/faded using T's automation curves.

4. Vocals (which need some work admittedly) recorded with my CAD M-177 Large diaphragm condenser, through dbx mini pre, into my SBlive. Then used Final Mix vocal preset for compression and Luxonix reverb medium room for reverb. This reverb is too strong in my opinion.

Final Mix with Acuma master to CD put in the output filter location.

Please provide me some feedback.

Thanks to all tracktioneers who helped me wade through my first frustrations with T and the SBLive KX drivers.

Oops,

I thought I put this in the Tracktion in Action thread - at least I tried to do that.

I can't figure out how to move it to the proper thread.

nice n' mellow.
I think you could beef up the drums a bit though with some (more?) compression - sound a tad flat.

The guitar gets a bit lost around the 3.30 mark too - can perhaps hear where you havn't quite lined the clips up correctly.

Otherwise very nice , and good vocs too!

Actually, it's just my bad timing. The rhythm track is all one take. There's a farty chord or two in there and when I do that, I often get behind just a bit.

I'm not done with the song - I plan to add in some one-shot cymbals here and there and re-record the rhythm guitar track to clean up the clams.

Thanks for taking the time to listen. Based on your comments on the drums, I might throw in final mix on the drums and see if there is a drum specific preset to use. I'm starting to use final mix as my fave compressor.

All told, I've got about 1.5 hours of recording on this track, another 3-4 hours of messing around with VSTi's that I had never used before, and another couple of hours of trying out automated curves and such and tweaking some of the VST effects on the tracks.

Nice tune! just have some comments about it.
Voice: Try to bring it forward on the soundstage. I would like to have it closer to me. Maybe some backup vocals in the backround? (No, I cant help you with that because my rig stinks, no good micpreamp)

Rhodes: And replace the rhodes at certain points with a piano with a little delay and some dist. Especially in the beginning.

mOOndancer,

Thanks for the comments. The comment about the Rhodes is a common one I'm getting back - but yours with the idea for an acoustic piano, I think I'll give that a shot.

I don't like how the EP seems a little out of tune at the beginning of the tune.
