Is the Cubase SE engine similar to the one in SX2?

As Steinberg says they are going to phase out upgrades from Cubase VST 5.1 I sold some old junky gear and got a copy of Cubase SE.
It seems much improved from VST 5.1 and in fact is more advanced than several of that synth's features. It's more intuitive but still at times a click-fest.
Mind you, I use Sonar Producer 3 and am not thrilled about it's new feature set. For me it's a lot of money to upgrade to. It's on a "wait and see list".
Cubase SE has a upgrade curve which is better then none with 5.1. btw, what's missing from SE vs 5.1 VST besides a few cheesy VSTi?
thanks in advance

Yeah, I have that on PDF but from a practical users standpoint is it a whole lot different in terms of look and feel?
I'm not sure what they mean about the audio engine, I assume that was a 2.x update which is mentioned in the list.
Honestly, the SE version sounds better than 5.1 VST.

the only thing I would not like is the lack of a freeze, but Im sure its all the same codebase that is hamstringed by version...

The comparison chart says it does not have the new 2.3 audio engine.
So I presume it does not have delay compensation which is a help in making it sound better.
Inasmuch as sounding different from anything in Windows 98SE, maybe the advantage is had by the software running in Win-XP ?

Bingo! I got it as well. I believe it was version 1.05, not even 1.06, but I'd have to load it up to check again. it is NOT SX 2.Armadillo wrote:Cubase SE is build upon Cubase SX 1 not SX 2.

And wouldn't make a difference if you don't use aux sends.jens wrote:that's a strange way of saying it.peppy197 wrote: So I presume it does not have delay compensation which is a help in making it sound better.

Well, good.
Thanks Devon and Jens for the sensible engines. No offense to others but often I think some of us get hung up in very minor details and miss the question.
Now I know why SE seemed so fundementally different but also know that it's a nice little sequencer.
Anyone need a copy of Cubase VST 5.1 (manual, 3rd party book and of course Dongle? I'd prefer trades, but don't be insulting e.g. "how about a copy of LM4?" or "I've got a CD filled with SE synths and will transfer license on 2 of my $20 SE synths" nothing against SE or saleware SE, just illustrating a point. I support the SE community and like several of the payware synths.
I have no need for 5.1 VST but perhaps someone does?

We were talking about Cubase here with does compensate for inserts though.jens wrote:DevonB wrote:And wouldn't make a difference if you don't use aux sends.jens wrote:that's a strange way of saying it.peppy197 wrote: So I presume it does not have delay compensation which is a help in making it sound better.

Devon- whichever way: if you use a plugin which introduces delay and your host doesn't compensate for it (be it as a track-insert or as a send-effect) it will sound indeed terrible - so terrible that you can't use the plugin (if you don't help yourself with a trick which is only possible on inserts - there you go Devon
) - but to say it degrades the sound-quality if your host doesn't support pdc is utter nonsense.
