Monitoring through Tracktion, rather than 0404.

I've got a little mini-mixer, which is connected to the in/outs of the sound card through the Tape In/Tape Out. I've got a set of headphones plugged in to the mixer's Phones jack. I've got a cable running from the Record/Phones of my guitar amp into the first channel Line in on the mixer.

It all works fine, except that I can't figure out how to monitor through Tracktion. I can monitor through the sound card, and use the card's built-in reverbs etc. (to record a dry signal and then apply different effects later). That works great, and I could do whatever I need to do with just that option. But it would be nice to be able to monitor my signal through VST effects that I've applied to the track in Tracktion itself. Then I'd know exactly what I was getting, rather than having to approximate it with the card's effects.

I tried a bunch of different things in the ins and outs section of Tracktion, but I'm not sure what to do exactly, and neither the Tracktion manual nor the 0404 manual have been terribly helpful either.

Any suggestions?

You need to make sure the input you want to monitor has its "end to end" setting turned on. (This is not the same as the end to end button by the transport controls.) Then just route the input to a track in the normal way and you should hear the live input through any filters you have set up.

Hi Travis

I am thinking about buying an 0404 but I have heard that there are some bugs with it when in use with Tracktion, which is my main sequencer. How have you found the 0404 and working with Tracktion (apart from the End to End issue, which Platinumears is absolutely right about?

If you get the time I'd really appreciate any info you have.

cheers

Well, the advice worked perfectly. So, at the cost of looking a bit like an idiot, I can now monitor through Tracktion.

As for bugs, I haven't had any problems, but you may have noticed that I'm not exactly a power-user. If I encounter any I'll be sure to post them.

Thanks for the help.
