I never use Wavestation much so I'm not sure how that works exactly.
Here is a really old thread that talks about saving presets, hopefully it still applies to thelatest version:

RAM banks are the only banks in which you can save your own patches, yes.

Post

It models the hardware, as the patch layout is important for patch/sysex compatibility. So you save a patch "internally" to the RAM banks. When you use your DAW's plugin preset save mechanism, or just by saving your project, it's the contents/state of those RAMs that get saved. You can also use the plugin to manually save out the RAMs to a file as well.

thx guys, im a bit nervous when i save e.g. in BANK1 and rename the preset, it overwrites the factory bank doesnt it?

Three of the factory banks are in RAM yes, rather than leaving them empty. You can always get them back, or back them up first in either of the methods outlined above. Same with the hardware - the RAM came filled with sounds, rather than coming empty. It doesn't mean people should be scared to clean out the RAMs with initialised data, and use them to make their own sounds.

I thought there was some kind of librarian for Wavestation? I might have just imagined that though...
I remember on my old hw Wavestation that I buggered a whole lot of presets up by overwriting the RAM banks, and even more by writing over wavesequences.

For the hardware? Sure... quite a few. SoundDiver was always my preferred option due to it's excellent dependency management and librarian features...
