Hi

I'm running the latest Bitwig Studio 4.2 on Ubuntu Linux and have the latest Hypercyclic 1.9 and Tonespace 2.9 VSTs installed - downloaded from the web site today.

They work fine as stand-alone apps and load well in Reaper but mostly do not work in Bitwig - see attached screenshot. If I click on 'reload plugin' repeatedly the plugins will eventually load. However this is not really workable. Any chance this can be looked at?

Many thanks in advance,

Have you tried Settings->Per Plug-in Overrides and check those plugins?

Out of curiosity, are you using Flatpak installations? You could be being affected by sandboxing.
C/R, dongles & other intrusive copy protection equals less-control & more-hassle for consumers. Company gone-can’t authorize. Limit to # of auths. Instability-ie PACE. Forced internet auths. THE HONEST ARE HASSLED, NOT THE PIRATES.

i have the same problem after a fresh bitwig and hypercyclic install, error message as follows:
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)

EDIT: after downgrading hypercyclic from version 1.9 it works again.

Hi,
After some some digging I found similar problem with other plugins using JUCE framework:

https://github.com/timothyschoen/PlugData/issues/13 (https://github.com/timothyschoen/PlugData/issues/13)
https://forum.juce.com/t/linux-vst3-fai ... ot-2/49448 (https://forum.juce.com/t/linux-vst3-failure-with-6-1-3-and-4-but-not-2/49448)

Which is probably fixed now in https://github.com/juce-framework/JUCE/issues/979 (https://github.com/juce-framework/JUCE/issues/979)

But I think plugins have to be rebuilt against new version of Juce.

OK sorry for the delay, can confirm this, and indeed looks like it's fixed with a more recent Juce version.

New betas that should fix this are available here:
https://www.mucoder.net/en/tonespace/v0209/download
https://www.mucoder.net/en/hypercyclic/v0109/download

Could you try and let me know whether this works for you?

cheers

Hi Leo,

Unfortunately it still doesn't work.
Just downloaded the beta of ToneSpace and run it on Ubuntu 22.04/Bitwig 4.3.2 but still the same behavior "Plugin host died: could not read async reply: End of stream".

If there is any other information I can provide, please let me know how I can help,
Aurélien

Ubuntu 22.04 is a nightmare... they screwed up alot of things with sandboxing apps (snap) by force.. its not possible to install without. It totally messes up Firefox for instance, if you are using things like SSO triggered by apps/scripts...

I would try using Ubuntu 20 instead...

You can install without snap. I am not using snap for any apps (I uninstalled snapd fully of Ubuntu).
Bitwig provides a deb to install - as for Firefox I download it directly.
So in this instance sandboxing is not the issue (especially as previous version of ToneSpace is working fine).

OK thanks for testing

had a look again. Turns out to be one of those bugs that show up less frequently if you are running in the debugger. Doh!

Think I found the cause too : looks like Bitwig 4.3.2 for Linux is calling the VST's prepareToPlay() method twice in a row, without calling releaseResources() first. No other DAW does that AFAIK. Cheeky!

Hope to release a new beta by mid next week...

Ok, if snapd is uninstalled then it should not be a problem. :)

Installing Ubuntu 22.04 doesn't let you choose not to install snap afaik. It didn't let me choose when I installed it 3 weeks ago on two different machines. Installing Firefox directly won't help when I snapd installed either..... there's a workaround though but it isn't pretty. ;)
