Question About Tracktion Free

Okay, first off, sorry about a question you probably get a million times here. In my defense, though, I did a search on this topic, getting a whole bunch of threads not pertaining to my question, and I looked for some sort of sticky'd Topic Listings thread and didn't see one.

So, here goes...

I just downloaded what I think was the free version of Tracktion, but it seems to have asked me to check the box saying "30 Day Trial." I guess my question is twofold: Did I download the wrong version? If not, will I have to do something specific 30 days from now to keep using the free version?

Unless things have changed with v12, you can use Tracktion Free for as long as you want. Probably the best deal in the DAW marketplace!

Tracktion Free & PRO are the same download. The features you get are based on whats in your account. You probably started a trial of PRO. You can go to advanced settings and set the feature set to FREE.

Note: there is no v12 free yet, only v11 free. v12 free is coming soon.

Thanks, folks! The area in the settings to choose "Free" versus "Pro" was sort of buried and convoluted to get to, but I found it and switched to Free.

Same thing is happening for me. Switched to FREE in Advanced settings and now I cannot activate this App ! It's not working at all...

The Waveform 12 free version does not exist yet, even though you can switch to it in the settings. It won't work until it has been officially released.

Okay, so should I uninstall the version I have for now and download/install a previous version?

If you installed v12, you'll want to keep it.

But since Free v12 is not available for use yet, feel free to download and install v11.5 Free.

Note that v11.5 won't be able to open any of your v12 projects you may have made so far, so be ready for that!

Thanks, @Watchful! I actually have no projects yet, so that won't be a problem. I assume I will be able to open projects I create with v11.5 Free when I upgrade to v12.5 Free?

Yes, absolutely: v12 opens all versions prior. You will *not* be able to open v12 projects in any earlier version...although someone here will probably tell us how to do it with a little light XML editing.

Okay, this is weird. I could have sworn I downloaded v12, but I just looked at my PC's desktop and I just looked now, and it's Waveform 11, I think the exact version is v11.5.18. I should be good to go with this, right?

Yes, that's likely the most current version of Waveform Free there is. Continue to use that until v12 Free comes out, which should likely be any day now.

However, if you can, you might find 11.5.17 is a "better" version to use in the meantime. .18 did have some .vst and other issues under some circumstances, and with some plugins.
