recording with a virtual keyboard

I want to do this in Tracktion or Waveform. I'm using Arturia, but it could be any vsti. I get sound from the keys but nothing gets recorded. What am I missing...something about track input settings? Thanks for any help!

I assume the "input level meter" on the right has some input showing, and the output audio on the right side also shows a level and you can hear it? Have you actually ARMED the track for recording? (the little red circle changes to a big red house on it's side), and then press the master record lower left?

Thanks for the response. Yes it's armed & I get levels when playing the instrument and when i record, the track says recording but no input level. I have midi/virtual input selected. Not sure what to do? I'm in waveform now.
