Hi Blue Cat!
Okay, so here’s a little back story: I work with a guitar player who LOVES to do things differently. He works on a “the band doesn’t have a specific sound, but each song has a specific sound” mentality. For the most part, it actually works pretty well. But the biggest issue he has is that he maxes out his technology.
We experienced this a couple of years ago when he was building his guitar patches with Overloud’s THU, and inserting those into channel strips as plug-in instances. He realised that basically by copying and pasting plugins and channel strips, he could build his guitar sounds by literally layering sounds on top of sounds, basically turning his one guitar into multiple guitars. Then of course, we ended up hitting Mainstage’s channel strip limit.
We went through a few hardware and software combinations over the past few years, then found Axiom.
So that brings us to the present day.
He’s now attempting to build Axiom patches modelled on those old Mainstage patches. So he’s basically inserting multiple instances of the THU plugin into Axiom (also using Blue Cat’s Patchwork chainer).
SO FAR it’s working. It’s not crashing.
But my concern is that it WILL crash.
I would love to be able to know what the potential limitations are here. I’ve looked in the Axiom manual and I don’t see any obvious limitations (channel strip limits, etc), but considering we’re potentially running Axiom with 70-80 individual song patches that each have completely different settings, what would you say would be the most likely thing to go wrong? Anything in particular I should keep a look out for?
Thanks!

As long as you are using only built-in effects and Blue Cat Audio plug-ins, I am pretty sure that it will actually NOT crash, ever. I have been using this type of setup on Mac and PC for years without a single issue.
if you are confident enough with the THU plug-in, I guess you might not get into trouble either. The best way to get confident is to keep using it for a while, switching patches and presets and check that there is no problem.
