I think I broke my Waveform 11 installation with Kontakt Player...

First post here- I'm very new to audio production, so I apologize for stupid questions.

Anyway, I recently installed Waveform 11 and have been teaching myself to use it. I learned the basics pretty quickly and decided to install a bunch of plugins and instruments for it. Most of these went smoothly- I even managed to use Jbridge to get a bunch of old DarkWare plugins working.

And then I made a mistake.

I discovered the large array of Native Instruments plugins, and wanted to use them in the DAW. After much fiddling I was able to get Kontakt Player installed on Waveform 11, with the "Distant Choir" instrument. Unfortunately something clearly went very wrong, as it wouldn't work with the MIDI system of Waveform at all (the DAW piano roll did nothing). So after trying and failing to get that working, I decided to put that on the back burner and switched over to another instrument I knew worked.

Unfortunately, it seemed to have fundamentally broken my installation, as now MIDI notes will not play at all, and even the playhead doesn't work anymore. Following some advice I uninstalled Kontakt, but it's still broken.

How do I fix this? Is it possible to reset whatever was broken? Heck, I'd be happy to reset Waveform to factory settings provided I didn't lose my plugins, but I can't find any way to factory reset it at all! Am I missing something obvious?

I can't imagine any way that Kontakt would be able to do the things you're describing. It's far more likely that you unwittingly changed a setting in Waveform somewhere. But it's hard to tell from vague descriptions. I don't know what you mean by "the DAW piano roll did nothing" or "the playhead doesn't work anymore". It can be tough giving descriptions that make sense to others. Photos and videos can usually work better.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Right- I'll try and get some screencaps tomorrow, but for now I'll try and give some more detailed descriptions of the problems.
The piano roll (as I'm entering notes manually) has ceased to produce any sound. The "keys" don't play the MIDI samples, and whilst notes can be placed, they won't play.
As for the playhead, upon pressing the play button, whilst the programme registers as "playing" the actual playhead doesn't move; it remains stuck at the beginning of the track, and no audio will play.
Another thing worth noting- the warning symbol on the track list indicating a MIDI track has no instrument assigned to it will not go away even when a MIDI instrument plugin is added to the track. Doesn't matter what plugin it is either, I tested it multiple times with the basic 4OSC synth and the problems remained.

From my somewhat limited understanding, it seems that something has gone wrong with the MIDI input and output channels. Beyond that I have no idea what's actually happened. As mentioned I will attempt to gather some screenshots- if there's anything in particular that would be helpful for me to picture then let me know.

This is what I mean by the warning message by the way.

That warning message definitely looks like you've somehow triggered a bug of some sort.

Is it possible that the edit is corrupted?

Note that I have Komplete (paid) and previously used the Player versions of Kontakt and the like, including in Waveform, and have never seen problems like these.

Well I have no idea how it happened but I got to the bottom of it- for some reason it turned my output device off. Switching it back to my speakers completely fixed the problem.
On the one hand I feel relieved, but I also feel a bit stupid, and also mildly confused as to how this happened in the first place. My apologies for the slight waste of time anyway.

Never a problem...it's what we're all here for. Glad you got it all sorted out!

I was just about to suggest that you look into the outputs as there seemed to be no output in your screen capture. You can see that the space to the right of the M/S (mute/solo) is empty in the image. It probably now has an icon in that space.

Waveform's error message in that case was unhelpful. It should be aware of the output issue and warn you about it. It's hard to work out the issue when the error message points you in the wrong direction.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Other than it was a little small to read, it DID say to correct the track destination. I had read the thread here, and figured it was output destination (somehow), although the fact it indicated MIDI destination was misleading...
Waveform 13; Win10 desktop/8 Gig; Win11 Laptop; MPK261; VFX+disfunctional ESQ-1

Agreed, that was very misleading.
