Hey guys. Looking for a bit of help here. I have been diving a bit deeper into the Live Matrix. For the most part it functions as one would expect. One thing I would really like to be able to do but can figure it out is......

While a 4 bar scene is already playing.
Record a midi/audio sequence of 8 bars in to the same scene..
Have it start playing in a loop (in sync and on beat) immediately after I disable record.
In the meantime the scene just continued playing merely adding the new 8 bar part.

I have read the docs.
Watched all the vids I could find.
I can seem to get this to work if I start from a stopped position with count in but that kinda defeats the point.

I have encountered some really odd things (IMHO) as I experiment with the different launch/sync modes. ( forgive me for not documenting which mode causes what )
Some times all of my played notes appear on top of each other on the last beat of a 4 bar loop.
Sometimes it records the full 8 bars that I played but the clip is many more bars than I recorded and actually has many neg bars in front of the start point. By neg bars I mean the events start at bar 1 but is preceded by several bars labled -1, -2, -3.....like on a number line. I assume thses are the bars that the scene played as I was getting ready to record the new part.
Sometimes it only records the last notes played of an 8 bar sequence into the last beat of a 4 bar sequence.

What am I doing wrong?

Edit.
I spent a little more time with it this afternoon. I removed everything from the composer timeline, turned off the composer and mixer. Only the live matrix was open.
I was able to record a clip and have it start playing when I turned off recording. :hyper: This was accomplished by selecting the small play icon on the scene to start playback. (Even though quite similar this is not the same as pushing play on the transport.) However the clip I recorded was limited to 2 bars ( the scene had 1 and 2 bar sequences). If I tried to record more than 2 bars this way it simply over dubed everything into 2 bars.

By the way. I like the input quantize implementation on the clip recording :tu:

Works fine here using M9.0.42.
Are you sure the "Auto Play Recorded Live Clips" preference is switched ON.
It's switched ON by default, but maybe you disabled it?

If you (accidentally) play notes before the loop point that will cause the new clip to have space at the start with the pre-loop notes at the end of that space ie. just before the new loop, as you played it.
If this info doesn't explain what you're encountering please elaborate on the unexpected cases, preferrably with a step by step to repeat the unexpected case, or with a screen video.

Thanks for the quick reply.
The "Auto Play Recorded Live Clips" is indeed on.
I was able to get the clip I wanted to be 8 bars to record 8 bars and start playing immediate as I wanted, but I had to set the length value to 8 bars prior to recording. This is fine as long as you know what the count is going to be, but in some live cases you may want to extend it or make it shorter on the fly ( live ...if you will ). The sequence length is set to infinity by default. This makes sense to me because the final length post recording should be the actual recording length with quantization.

I believe the negative bar numbers was caused by me using the transport "play" instead of scene "play" and allowing it to play several bars before I started recording. Once I started triggering the scene to play this anomaly disappeared.

I will spend some more time with it. Organize myself a bit and make a video of what I am experiencing.

Edit

Ah Ha!!!!!!!
Got it figured out!
If I don't insert a sequence into a cell but simply select the track and hi-lite a cell, then play the scene using the scene play button, then simply press record when I want to come in......It works perfectly
I guess inserting a sequence before recording was one step to many.

I will still make a video of my issues, why they occurred and how to avoid the same problems.
