Grid tutorial

I just went through XNB's tutorial series on the Grid and I really liked it. I found it to be one of the most informative on the subject. I don't have a clue who XNB is, but most certainly he put in a lot of time and effort. So as a thanks, I thought I'll advertise his work here. For PolyGrid beginners it's a great video series to understand and conceptualize the different modules and their functions/potentials.

Thanks for sharing,
11 videos, that a lot of work to learn how to use the grid.
Why did Bitwig developpers include such a think in Bitwig instead of focusing on better sampler with sampler slice feature, better plugins, midi comping ???
It should be interseting to know the % of people using the grid !

Because that's what most other DAWs do. The grid and ease of workflow makes bitwig unique.dupont wrote: Fri Sep 23, 2022 7:24 am Thanks for sharing,

For sure for me that is the most important and welcomed part of Bitwig. Without the Grid I would still stick to 2.4… And as you can use patches of other people, the % could be pretty high…dupont wrote: Fri Sep 23, 2022 7:24 am It should be interseting to know the % of people using the grid !
Its even one of the most simple to use synths of the world, as you only place the parts in it you need… And you see the connections made between the parts. Its even the best synth to learn sound design. Preset junkies don’t need to learn any synth anyway, they can enjoy the library…

Bitwig is committed to the Grid. It is 100% certain they will keep developing it and that it will be a central focus of the DAW. It is fundamental to Bitwig, just like M4L is fundamental to Live.Tj Shredder wrote: Sat Sep 24, 2022 5:16 amFor sure for me that is the most important and welcomed part of Bitwig. I understand, it is as if a rock star started to build is own guitar ... But if there is a business for this why not.
You can make good music without the long grid learning curve, as musicians have done for years without hardware modular monsters.
Perhaps I will dig in the grid one day ...
Nevertheless, There must have had a lots of work in the videos on this post and congrats for this.
(I started to watch them, human are curious

That comment shows you don't understand (no offense meant). If you stick to the common synth modules like Osc's and Filters and Envelopes, then the Grid is about the same complexity as making your own presets in Hive or Serum.dupont wrote: Sat Sep 24, 2022 7:39 amI understand, it is as if a rock star started to build is own guitar
Reaktor and M4L have long initial learning curves. I never made a single thing in either of them because of it. The Grid however, I made a useful synth sound in the first 10-15 minutes of using the Grid for the first time. The beauty of the Grid is exactly that - there is no big initial learning curve. If you know the basics of synthesis, you can quickly be making your own sounds.
Sure there are lots of esoteric modules in the Grid that have a learning curve, but there is no requirement to learn them to use the Grid. The wavetable editor in Serum also has significant complexity. You don't have to master the Serum editor, or use math formulas to generate waves in order to make presets in Serum. The Grid is just like that. It's easy if you want it to be.
I could sit down, in person, with anyone who makes their own sounds in whatever VST synth, and they would be up and running in 15 minutes. No need to watch a bunch of videos.

Its much more like a rock star learns to tune or restring her guitar. Its much less complicated than a Moog modular. If Keith Emerson could do it, you can do as well…dupont wrote: Sat Sep 24, 2022 7:39 am I understand, it is as if a rock star started to build is own guitar ... The learning curve compared to Max or Reaktor is pretty flat actually, even compared to VCV or VM or any other Eurorack clone…dupont wrote: Sat Sep 24, 2022 7:39 am You can make good music without the long grid learning curve, as musicians have done for years without hardware modular monsters.
Its worth it for sure… But that is my view, for sure you can do well without. If your are more focused on the notes you play than on the sounds, then why bother…
