is that the 'add noise to avoid denormalisation' thing??? Cos I can't see where else there is a dither setting.platinumears wrote:16 bit

to anybody who's interested I found it - it is in Settings - then Audio Devices, and then click on the audio device you are using, 3 'radio' buttons should then appear, one is which is a dithering option

Correct me if I'm wrong but the way I understand dither is this: Reducing word length from 24 bit to 16 bit is not dithering. Dithering is introducing shaped noise into the signal, so if you want to dither you should put a dither plug into the chain and just save it as a 16 bit file. Then it's "dithered".

It does but it also reduces the word length to 16 bit and any adjustments afterwords defeates the point of using dithering in the first place. I usually master in a seperate file so as for the slider I just render it with 24 bits then master dither and leave the master volume alone.
