A Couple Traction Questions

Hi Everyone! I need to know how to move an entire recorded song (10 tracks) 2-4 beats in, so I can have more room at the beginning. I don't seem to be able to find a "SELECT ALL" instruction in the USER MANUAL. Also, as i understand it, TRACTION saves a file of every take. When I'm sure I'm done, I would like to DELETE all of this unnecessary info... (or, OPTIMIZE) .... Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks J. Rocker

Ctrl-A selects all, but context applies. One thing you can do is select a clip and press Ctrl-A, which selects all the clips on that track and then press Ctrl-A again, which selects all clips on all tracks. If nothing is selected at all, Ctrl-A should select all the clips in your Edit.
In the Projects tab, when you have a Project selected, there is a button at the bottom right "Search for Unused Files".

Surely there must be consensus by now...

To shift tracks over 4 bars...
1. Place the cursor at bar 0 and press I to move the in markers there.
2. Place the cursor at bar 4 and press o to move the out markers there.
3. Shift-click tracks 1 through 10 to select them.
4. Below, the Properties pane (the panel that stretches across the bottom of the screen), look for Inset into tracks...
5. Select insert blank space.
This should shift your tracks over 4 bars.

In the project view, there is a menu item for removing orphaned clips. I always use that to clean out unused material.

To insert space at the beginning, you only have to drag from the beginning of the timeline, the number of bars you want, right click and select Insert blank space. This inserts time on all tracks.

This isn't documented or inherently obvious, so here's what I recommend.Stuttaton wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 2:18 pm In the project view, there is a menu item for removing orphaned clips. I always use that to clean out unused material.
1. Go to the Project view tab--you should see your projects listed.
2. Click on the name of the project on the LEFT (not in the enter, where it shows edits)
3. Note the buttons toward the bottom change. Look for one toward the lower right that references "Search for Unused Files." Click on that.
4. In the center pane, a list of files, clips, MIDI tracks, etc., will appear. These are all items your project is NOT using, but are stored in the project folder. Shift-click to select all these files.
5. Click on the Delete item button (bottom center). You'll be asked if you want to delete the actual files, or just remove them from this list.
6. If you're doing project clean up, you want to DELETE these, otherwise you could wind up with megabytes of unused stuff: partially rendered files, merged clips, etc., that you've all replaced with final elements.
7. If you delete these files, you may be initially alarmed by a new list of files that replaces this one--that's okay--Waveform is showing you the files you have left and want to keep. Sometimes, it's just one or two!
Step 2 is the most important--otherwise, you'll never find the option to find orphaned materials.

Hi Johnny, All you need to do is use the arranger track at the very top (above the marker track). Right click and insert a new arranger clip, resize it to cover the section. then just drag the arranger clip along the timeline.

So we're up to 3 ways to insert more bars. Forgot all about the arranger track, and I use it frequently myself!

Wouldn't it be nice to refer Johnny to a specific part of the Waveform 12 manual that covers this in detail?
Shame it's not even documented in previous versions, either.
